Trade Datejust hidden clasp and OP 41 Green for Daytona

Thinking about consolidating, and a possible trade would be my datejust 116233 champagne stick with jubilee unpolished full set mint condition and OP 41 Green Dial plus ~$3K for a Daytona 6 digit, likely a 116503 white dial.

I love the Daytona and don’t think i will be able to add it to my collection anytime soon except as a trade like this. I think the OP green dial can easily be replaced down the line given its lower cost, and I think a 36mm would be better for me anyway. I do love the green dial.

On the other hand, the datejust is a grail watch for me that I spent over a year plus trying to find in this condition (I bought it NOS ~4 years after they discontinued the hidden clasp). Its hard to find the 116233 reference in good condition, as a lot of them have been well worn and polished, will dull bezels and stretched bracelets. Bottom line, this is going to be hard to replace.

These are good problems to have, but I welcome thoughts on this trade. Should I just bite the bullet on the Daytona? Or be patient and try to do the OP and cash for a zenith 2 tone, which would be much lower cost. This would be a harder option for me given the out of pocket costs right now. Thoughts?

Reading your post, particularly the paragraph about your grail DJ that you searched so long and hard for.....the answer would be "no" right there. From what I can sense, you are already having the feeling of regret even before you did this deal. I would NOT let this one go!

I don't follow the market very closely on the 116503 Daytona, but I don't think that's a super hot reference? Aren't the TT Daytonas relatively easy to get and at a decent deal nowadays? Your green OP41 is still a pretty desirable piece. I think trying to work out a deal with it plus cash for the Daytona would be the better option. Or, if the numbers don't work out well with that seller, just sell your OP41, add money and buy a TT Daytona from somewhere else?

I would definitely NOT let go of your DJ though!!

You do you. Me? No.

The only Daytonas I've seen on display for sale at my AD have been TTs.

Not for a 2 tone. A 116500 then yes.

If you want a Daytona, get a Daytona.
The Zenith is a nice watch in its own right, but it’s not a Daytona.

Regarding the DJ, it is a fairly recent reference, and given the quantities they’re produced in, I do believe if you ever want to circle back and get one in the future, it won’t be that hard to find a suitable one.

Only you know what type of watch suits your current station in life.
I don’t wear my 116234 all that much these days, but I wear my 116503 a lot.
Although I’d imagine as I grow older, I’ll need an easier to read watch and will wear the DJ more (white dial with cyclops).

I would avoid TT and keep the grail, should not be difficult to get a TT daytona. A grail is a grail.

Not for a TT, no. 116500? Possibly.

Sounds like letting your DJ go will lead to regret.

I wouldn’t do it, I have a DJ36 with Super Jubilee and I think the 116XXX series is a really nice iteration of the Date Just 36mm, possibly the best.
