![]() As I've said from day one, if the DSSD would have been launched during the booming years of '03-'05 I GUARANTEE it would have fetched a hefty premium over list price for a long, long time. The same thing is going to happen w/ the new SS Sub-C. People are complaining about the case being awkward, out of proportion, too blocky, ect. You know what...fast forward a few years after the SS Sub-C has been on the market and I guarantee it will be setting new sales records. It's going to be pricey, but it's still going to sale well. Then, all you'll be hearing from buyers will be, "Why would I want an 'old' Sub with those tiny markers/hands w/ terrible lume, an archaic bezel mechanism system, an insert that scratches and most noticeable a clasp that can't be adjusted on the fly and rattles around like a cheap tin toy?!?!" |

ahh i see!!!
Never really looked too much into the Sub, probably gonna get an e-bullet in the head for this, but the Sub seems to common (well here in london anyway) I do respect the Sub....just see WAYYY to many of them...and they dont feel right, kinda tinny.... I need a DSSD ASAP!!!! ...... the glidelock on the new awaited sub should be interesing though.. I HAVE to try and get to basel in march, i travel at least once a year to geneva for a weekend break , so will try and time it to be there when baselworld is on....do something PROPER with my time... like drool over watches! |

I love my DSSD as I do all of my watches, but my enduring gripe with Rolex continues with this model, and that's when setting the time! The 'play' in the movement means getting the minute hand to set very accurately is a PITA. I'd have thought Rolex would have cleared this up by now and removed the 'wooliness'.... My old Speedy and Connie are far easier to set than the DSSD, YM or DJ!
I still wear the DSSD as my 'daily' tho'! |

We're up to two "Regret Buying", yet no dialog? Come on, it gets boring just reading about praise...if you regret it and willing to vote in such a manner, why not share your complaints?

There is something wrong with the poll. It shows 44 own one, 43 are extremely satisfied and 2 regret purchasing it.

I can't think of anything I would change. I admit that a thicker bracelet might would look better but it wouldn't be as comfortable. I have seen a photoshop of a DEEPSEA without the writing on the rehaut and it looked wrong. I would like to see a photoshop of the DEEPSEA with a black ring. Not having anti-reflective crystal (imho) is a brilliant part of the watch. Along with the ceramic bezel, the whole watch shines. I have bright downlights (spots) in the kitchen and just love looking at the watch with all the light bouncing of it. I think most of the people who dislike the DEEPSEA seem to be SD4000 owners so probably some sour grapes. I think we'll see lots of people who don't like the new sub...and guess what they will own. I would like to know how many people own a DEEPSEA as their first Rolex. Seems like quite a few. i think Rolex gained some new customers with this one. ![]() |

The poll shows that 13 members have the SDDS as one and only , can we presume that it is their first Rolex ? Ok, they may have sold one just to buy that one . |

It's clearly not a watch for everyone. I would like it better if it didn't have "Original Gas Escape Valve" on the rehaut. That just looks like advertising. I prefer the old DSD.
It's far too bulky for me - but if you have the presence to carry it off, then it can look great as some of the photos here testify.

I've asked twice already...with no response. I don't get it. If I was going to vote that I regret buying something, I definitely would express my reasons why as it makes for good forum reading/discussions (and isn't that one of the main reasons we visit sites like this?)

I think we can conclude that the people who ticked "regret buying" have NOT bought it and don't like it and therefor just ticked the box.
![]() These polls should log who votes and put their name against it automatically. The poll would be much more accurate. |

You certainly have a good point there . Maybe we should get that idea to the almighty MOD's and see if they could do something to have that feature build in the polls .

I really like some aspects of it - the bezel (love the hybrid between SD/Milsub markings, and of course the cerachrome), the glidelock, the solid links, the matt dial, and the blue lume. Oh, and the back looks pretty cool too.
However, I'm not a fan of the writing on the rehaut, or the thickness of the case. The diameter works (just IMO), and I do agree that the bracelet looks a bit thin around the clasp, but the trade off for comfort here makes sense. If only it didn't have the silly (IMO) writing and was a bit thinner (3mm or so) I would be wearing one right now. Instead I have to make do with GMTIIC, and a SD :-) I really hope that they bring out a Sub derrivative to replace the 14060 that has similar dial, and in particular the bezel markings that the DSSD has. IMO the 1forthcoming 16610 looks too much like the current 16610 to justify a switch, and something as simple as tarting up the bezel markings would make a difference. |

As soon as I saw the photos from Basel I knew I had to have one. Very impressed with it. A class piece of kit IMO

I too thought the rehaut writing was a little silly; until I saw one in person and under different lighting situations (most importantly natural sun light). I too questioned the comfort level of a 18mm thick watch; until I tried it on. I too thought the bracelet looked a tad too thin; until I wore it for a day and realized it's the most comfortable 'Big' watch I've ever worn/owned and the bracelet looks perfect. If they would have made it any wider IMO it would have looked too wide and come across as gaudy. I now think my SMP Chrono w/ it's non-taper wide bracelet looks a little too thick around the curve/clasp...DSSD is definitely tastefully more sleek IMO. All these critiques are extremely valid when only viewed/experience via internet photos. I think my brother summed up this watch best (he's a devout Sub owner/lover pretty much his whole life BTW) when he first saw/wore my DSSD...his words, "Wow...the writing is actually pretty subdued and not nearly as annoying as the pictures make it out to be, not to mention the thing is amazingly comfortable. I now have to reconsider all my preconceived opinions of the watch that I formed after you kept sending me all those damn pictures released from Rolex." ![]() |
