MODIFICATIONS & UPGRADES - is that all Rolex is capable of churning out for us??

That's right, guys........

In recent years, we have had some fabulous models roll out from Rolex like.......the genius of them all, the GMT-IIC, the YM-II, new Milgauss, DJ2, DD2, TOGs, even Daytonas with improved clasps, etc., even DJs all blinged up with diamonds and flowers for the Paris Hiltons and Tara Reids of the fashion world; but when the hell are we ever going to see something DIFFERENT or something NEW from Rolex.

Something entirely apart from all the modifications & upgrades that Rolex have been eye-washing us with all these years from Basel.

At the present rate that Rolex is going, it won't be too long before all their current models have been completely modified, upgraded and in some cases revamped..............and then, what next? That's right.....WHAT NEXT?????

We'll have a huge Rolex collection of completely new watches with the latest Parachrom springs, Paraflex systems, newest clasps and bracelets, thicker lugs, maxi dials, Ceramic bezels.............and then?

That's it - no more ideas!!!

Cheers all - JJ

Maybe Rolex is going to dabble in a calculator watch like Casio used to make in the 80s!

The relative stability and timelessness of Rolex's designs is central to the allure of the brand for me. I see no need for churn. Other brands offer a lot more excitement, and a lot more watches that will look about as elegant and graceful as this Seamaster after a few years. I think they're very wise to keep one foot on the brake.

It seems that they are introducing more innovations in their Tudor line than in the Rolex line-up. Anyone know if and when Tudors will be in the US?

I think we can expect most of the new models in our local ADs by Aug./Sept.

I'd like to see the Rolex "JJ", you know the one like with Mickey Mouse except it's gotta little smilin' JJ with his arms and hands pointing to the time. They could nickname it "The Tosser"!

There is a cool brand named "Rado". They have a beautiful gunmetal blue that they use to color the watches. I look for Rolex to follow Rado's lead. Maybe a new case style from Rado would interest collectors.

I like the calculator idea too. You always need one of those!

The day a Rolex even remotely starts to look like a RADO, that's the day I shall throw all caution to the wind and burn down the Rolex Geneva factory!!

Completely agree. New movement and the only one in the world where the bezel interacts with the movement. Programable...

Well, assuming we're talking about the Professional line:

These are the use cases:

-Dive watch (regular and uber)
-Airline pilot/traveler watch
-Rugged watch (regular and uber)
-Yacht watch (regular and uber)
-Scientist watch
-Race car watch

Come up with a credible use case that differs enough from what is listed above, and I'm sure someone would oblige. Right now though, I don't see a compelling reason for a new professional model.

A completely new model with a Power Reserve function would be good.

The watch could be made to a perfect 39 mm size with the same case styling as the current 36 mm DJ (just pumped up by 3 mm) and then this PR function with date, of course.

How? It's a Seadweller on steroids, which was the Submariner on steroids. That's an evolution, not an innovation.
