It's here!

Hey all,

The Omas arrived just a while ago. Here's a few quick and dirty shots of it. The one of the nib isn't the best, so I'll try to get a better one up later.

It's beautiful! First impressions are that it's substantially thicker than my Chopin, and much longer posted, but the barrel itself is about the same. But, still no ink, so it'll be a bit before I getting some writing samples up.

Here it is, The Omas Italiana Milord Arco Celluoid:

I'm stoked!

Wow. That is a real beauty. Congratulations you must be very pleased.

Oh by the way your quick and dirty pictures are better than my planned out and deliberate shots.

Wow the celluloid is beautiful! Congrats John!
It's a very fine pen. The nib looks like pure 18k so it should be pretty flexible. Thanks for sharing and use it in good health!

P.S. Is Easter Monday a public holiday in US or not? We have Easter Friday and monday public holidays...

I've admired these pens for some time and yours is a real beauty. I thought that I had won an older version a while back on ebay, but the bidding got away from me at the end. Congrats and I will be very interested to see how you like using it.

I always thought that I'd like to use a brown or copper ink with this Omas. What type/color are you considering?

You were right, Richard, it really is beautiful. And so substantial. The Paragon might have been a bit too large.

Thanks, Joji. Yep, it's one of those finishes that catches the light differently depending on the angle.

Thanks, Chris. I have Aurora blue and black on back order, but those seem to be pretty tough inks to find right now, at least where I've looked. I think I'm going to run blue through this one to start out with. I just need to find the time to get up to Seattle or Bellevue, which are the closest pen stores in my area.

World Lux in Seattle carries a lot of brands. I might try one of the Private Reserve blues.

The nib is all gold, Kai, and much larger than my MB. I'm looking forward to trying it out. I took off work a couple of hours early, so as not to miss the UPS truck. I timed it pretty well!

I'm sure it will be terrific no matter which type ink you use. Again, congratulations. I may pull the trigger on one of these myself sometime later this year.

John, what a gorgeous fountain pen you have there. Beautiful color and the nib looks great. I think your new pen warrants a personal day from work to go up to Seattle and get some ink for it. You owe it to yourself cause it would be killing me if I bought a fountain pen and then had to wait for ink!!!

Wow John, that is a beauty, in fact it is one of the best looking pens I have ever seen, what stunning colours (colors) it has, so deep, beautiful. Superb photography as well, that pen deserves nothing less.

Use and enjoy that stunning pen for a long long time and in the very best of health.

I'm not really "into" pens but I do appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into them.

& John mate......

that's a truly beautiful pen.

I'm sincerely happy for you.

I finally got up to Seattle today to get some ink. I got some Aurora Blue, Private Reserve Ultra Black and DC Supershow Blue.

I inked the Omas and MB when I got home, Aurora in the Arco and black in the Choping. The loading went well with both pens.

I have to say, I'm a little disappointed with the Omas so far. The nib is pretty scratchy, though it seems to work well. My MB is clearly smoother (both are fine nibs). The Omas is also definitely a fine, even though I was led to believe this brand of pen writes pretty wet.

Can I expect some improvement here, or is this all I can look forward to? I remember my MB improving as I used it more, but I never remember it being this scratchy.

John, do not worry too much. I think it is a combination of Mont Blanc being famous for lovely smooth nibs as well as being a little broader in their nib sizes.

I would really recommend the old brown paper bag trick with the Omas nib, also being a bit finer than the MB I would guess it might be a little harder finding the "Sweet spot" of the nib

May I also suggest putting the PR ink in the Omas. I find PR ink to be smoother than many others in writing with!

Hope that helps and let us know how you get on. I think to be fair to the Omas you have been spoiled by the smooth nib on the Chopin. I know I found the same thing when I got another brand of pen as well, that Chopin nib was as smooth as butter!
I really think the brown paper bag trick will help though

Ian, Leo, thanks. I'll try the paper bag trick. And Ian, I'll try switching the inks up. I have been writing with it quite a bit this afternoon, and it does flow well, with no skipping or anything like that, and I love the Milord size.

I have to say, the PR ultra black flows beautifully from the Chopin. I'll try to get some writing samples up before the weekend is out.

I have a bottle of Private Reserve Black Magic Blue but haven't used it yet. I'm sure glad you have used your pen and are enjoying it. Nothing like a new pen to brighten your day!!!

You got that right, Leo!

I also handled a MB 149 yesterday at the pen store (World Lux), to get a feel for it, and it is really nice. It's a big pen, with a huge nib, but I think that one is on my list now too. It's a beauty.
