What exactly makes a watch accurate?
So, did some research and found it interesting that Bulova states
"The technology is accurate to 10 seconds per year as compared to most other quartz watches, which are accurate to fifteen seconds per month." Cool. Not going to argue that point. Onto the subject... What make a watch accurate? VPH? 28,800? 36,000? Tag has made one Calibre 360 that oscillates at 360,000 beats per hour! Then I read this.(love physics when I understand it):small U-shaped metal 'nano-rings'. The electromagnetic field of light drives charges back and forth, thereby inducing an alternating current in each U shape.(think Bulova tuning fork) The tiny opening at the top of the ring makes sure that the current zooms around at the frequencies of light. In this way, each ring becomes a small but strong electromagnet, with its north and south poles alternating 500 billion times per second. The researchers made an important discovery by measuring how much light passes through a thick grid of these electromagnets. It appears that when the tiny currents of the rings are actuated by light the nano-magnets also influence each other and can power each other. 500 BILLION times a sec! IF developed into a watch, imagine how accurate this timepiece would be? INSANE
