Watch back from serive...price?

Hi all. I recently inherited this watch from my Grandfather. He lived in Florida and when he died my Grandmother sent it to get serviced first then to give to me. So yesterday was the first time ive gotten to actually physically have the watch. It is a 1956 Oyerster Perpetual. It has a USA JB band with original bracelet. and a 1030 movt. I was just wondering about the value of this watch and if it were to be sold how much could it be sold for? I am mostly doing this for insurance reasons. I know a lot of you have a ton of knowledge so let me know anything and everything about the watch. I am very interested in learning about it. Thanks a lot. I also have more pictures if you guys are interested.

Not a big market for these. Perhaps 1200, although in auction houses they may go for twice that....

However, you never want the possible sales price for insurance purposes... unless it's a high dollar exotic, and then you would need a professional appraisal for proof..

All you need is a replacement value, which is the current MSRP for an Oyster Perpetual.......

Thanks a lot! Is there a reason that there isnt a big market? Just to common for anyone to really collect and/or value has decreased?

Like Larry said , these do not fetch big bucks like some of the sports models of that era . Still a very elegant watch and it must have sentimental value for you . You can never replace that with a new watch .
Take care of it and wear it with pride .

Ummm what else are you looking for?
Larry said it all....

They were made in somewhat decent #s for back then.
People rather sports models.

So, what else are you looking for?

Insurance is going to require a written appraisal from someone qualified (jeweler, watch maker etc)

Bracelet is worn and loose

Again just ask whatever else it is you are trying to figure out but Larry (Tools) is one of the people who really know what they are talking about here.

People just prefer (at least collect) the sports models from the early years. Old small dress watches (even Rolex) just don't fetch much.

Keep it for the sentimental value though.

I'd have it serviced at a local repair shop that services older Rolex's. I'd lose the bracelet and have a nice black strap installed. Don't worry too much about "Value," it was your Grandfather's which make it invaluable. Nice watch BTW!!!!!
