Any Thoughts Will Be Appreciated...

I'm in the market for an Omega Triple Date Moonphase watch, solid gold. I found this one on ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Its what I want, but the price seems a bit high. Any thoughts will be appreciated.

Thanks to all in advance.

Personally I would be very careful about buying any watches from e bay etc due to fear of buying something that wasn't 100% authentic. I'm never sure whether they are 100% inside the watch, anything been replaced etc
Does it have papers etc and service history ? It does seem a high price.
Up to you but good luck

The seller has 100% feedback.

What about this one with more photos and information: Omega Cosmic Triple Moonphase reference 2486 and it matches with the Omega Vintage Watches Information site.

The ebay example is a 156.0003 powered by a cal 715. This model is quite collectible (although I think the 9 +K is a tad high)

The cal 715 was a derivitave on the cal 700 - 711 - 712 and a total of 466 movements were made in the moonphase configuration. The movement was decorated and chased by hand.

These came out in 1983 and while limited in number I dont believe they were actually marketed as a limited edition

The second eBay example has a refinished dial and is too expensive at that price. Good idea if you became an expert on the 27 DL calibre pieces as there are many frankens out there.

Cheers

Desmond

What would you consider a fair price for the watch I'm looking at on ebay, the one that is listed at $9K+.

If you really want it, maybe start at 4.5k and see what the reaction is. It's neo vintage and I suspect that it would fetch about that at a Christie's or Antiquorum auction.

Then again if they'll accept 4.5k it raises the possibility of it being fake... of course unless it's overpriced in the first place.

The feedback maybe %100 however how many people gave this person this rating and what did they actually buy from this person. 100 percent feedback doesn't always mean anything.

Do your research and Trust the seller.

Hmm, I think its real, but sometimes retailers get over-excited and price accordingly. As soon as the word 'rare' or 'liimited edition' reaches some dark recess of their brains - up go the dollars. But of course rarity is a perceptual matter and embraces more than sheer production numbers. It takes others to agree before it becomes so.

In the end, I guess a watch is worth what someone will pay for it. But if I was in an HK auction room 5k would be my limt :)

Cheers

Know what you mean about "rare" and "limited editions" someone on eBay is selling this: Royal Navy Diver's Ltd Edition Omega Seamaster Watch. It did not sell the first time, so they have dropped the asking price by £50.

It is a great looking piece and I would love to have it. As stated this is bit high for what it is. Personally I would offer a little less (like 4) then Desmond's start, just to give some upward bargaining room. You would be surprised sometimes by the difference between what some dealers ask for, and what they will take. Anything 4-5 would be fair.
