As stated USPS Express < $5K or USPS Registered for >$5K and <$25K. It is actually cheaper to ship Express over First Class with insurance as the cost for insurance is 3X for first class. At approximately $3,200 of insurance the cost is more for first class then Express. The reason is it is 3X more likely to get lost. Additionally, it takes 21 days before you can file a claim, vice 7 for Express.

I would send the seller a nice note stating you have paid for the item, recommend USPS Express or Registered insured for full amount, and that if the item has not been shipped within a reasonable time of 24 to 48 hours that you will need to start proceeding with PayPal.

PayPal is not releasing funds to sellers who do not have sufficient feedback history until the item has been received. This is part of their fraud prevention program.

The advice on the website is to tape seams (clear tape is fine too), not cover the package with tape. Adding more tape beyond that doesn't make it more secure, nor is it customary; it just makes it more likely to get snagged. YMMV.
MonBK is right. It has to be the brown paper tape for USPS registered. I have just shipped 3 different watches via this route and the postmaster and I taped the heck out of my boxes. Then he got his little ink stamp and stamped every seam so that it would be evident if someone had tampered with the box. This is standard USPS practice.

It must be the brown paper tape for USPS registered.

USPS Registered is probably one of the safest and best values shipping from Hawaii.

I always ship with FedEx and buy the insurance from them. Never had a problem, imagine trying to make a claim with USPS. I have had so many boxes nearly destroyed by USPS Registered Mail. My thought is FedEx has about twelve hours from the time I drop off the package to delivery, less likely for loss or damage. My warped thought.

Consider yourself lucky but we are talking about shipping watches and not regular merchandise.

The main difference between them is that if you have a claim with USPS you will get your money and with Fed-Ex you won't, pretty simple!!

FedEx considers watches to be jewerly and thus will only insure it to a maximum of $500.

When I sent my Explorer II off for service I used USPS Registered mail. Anyone that handles the package (that joke writes itself) has to sign for it and they use paper tape with a tamper stamp. USPS registered mail is an acceptable transport for documents up to the Secret clearance level. Insurance of up to $25k can be added as well.

Thanks. Any others anyone can recommend besides Parcel Pro? Parcel Pro is more for jewelers shipping more then a few times per year. When I called they ask a battery of questions to find out who you are, how much you will be using the service and what type of jewelery you will be shipping when using the service. I understand the reason for the questions as they do not want anyone shipping through them that is not in the jewelry business in order to avoid fraudulent claims. If you are going to ship a few watches per year, they do not want you as a client.

I use USPO Registered mail return receipt for all watches shipped nothing lost in 30 plus years and when I talked to my local postmaster he said everyone has to sign who touches it and if it gets lost on your signature it's automatic loss of job. The longest anyone had to wait was 11 days I had one go to Anchorage Alaska and it took only 4 days. I'd rather have it get there in one piece and at a decent price time is irrelavant. Rik

OP, that's complete BS. The bet way to send a Rolex, either to a private party or to an RSC, is via Registered Mail (with insurance) at the USPS. It takes all of 5 minutes...well, maybe more if there's a line at the post office...
