Icon5 How long from the time something is a 'new' model til you can find some used ones?

OK. Its a silly question, but I'm just a silly girl I guess. (So my hubby says.)

I got him his first Rolex in March, then we went to a SF GTG and I've been a ton of times to the jewelry store of late because I want one too now!

Problem is, no matter how many I look at, only one of the 'newer' sizes / styles of DateJust is what I want. I want a 31mm, which from what I can tell came out as a new thing at BaselWorld 2010. Is that right?

If I wanted a men's size or a ladies 26mm with the fluted bezel, I'd have a zillion choices of used ones. But NO, I want the 31mm, with the 24-diamonds bezel and a jubilee bracelet. I think I'm going to end up waiting forever. <sigh>

Seems like the 31mm DJs are going to be a popular size, so eventually there will be some, but I wondered from the really experienced folks how long it generally takes for the 'newness' to wear off and folks to start trading in for something new.

I believe the number for the one I want is 178343 if you're curious to know.

Meanwhile, I'm going to go buy an Omega probably, and then I'll feel like I can show my face in the watch geek crowd until the day comes I can find a 31mm I like.

Cheers,

Suzy

My guess would be a couple of months after the release in stores, dependent on your finding it. Just cause they'll exist, doesn't mean they'll be found. I'd probably write to all the trusted sellers (when the time comes) and tell them I'm on the lookout for X and widen the search net.

Good luck. For some people, the novelty wears off in a day!

Hi there,

31mm DateJusts have been on the market for years. They were formerly considered a unisex or "boy's" offering, and now marketed nearly entirely to women. It's just that a few new models have debuted.

You can get a 31mm now with a wide range of specs possible. You may want to talk to the AD, who can show you dial and bezel options. Have fun!

Hi there Suzy! Well you've already been given some good advice

Hang in there and do your research. Contact well known used dealers and be specific about what you're looking for.

Not sure if brand new is totally out of the question, but if not, there can be a great cost savings if you go with a reputable seller right here on TRF.

Have fun!!!

OH, honey, I've been to six ADs in the last month, drooling. And they all have different dial and bezel options and I've interrogated :D their book a couple times, but I've got it narrowed down pretty well.

Huh on the 'old styles have 31mm' options though. Maybe I didn't know that because the newer DateJusts have caught my eye. Will have to keep my eye out.

I PM'd a couple. I'll see what they say. Then I'll post a WTB if they don't have something in my top ten.

I don't mind waiting a bit, it seems the shopping is at least half the fun!

Cheers!
