Hi Gupta,

Welcome to TRF. Do you own a YM? If so, when you purchased (from an Authorised Dealer, I presume), the least that fellow could have done would have been to show the very basics.

Just unscrew the crown till it's completely free of the threads; then pull it out one notch and a forward turn of the crown will change the date; pull it out another notch and that will stop the watch so you can reset the watch.

When you've finished, push the crown home and screw down completely to ensure 100% waterproofness.

Cheers - JJ

Welcome to TRF, gupta. JJ gave you good information on how to change the date. If you want to see some Rolex instruction manuals (although the YM is not among them, the Oyster manual will give you the information you need), go to:
http://home20.inet.tele.dk/rolex/gb_documentation_5.htm

Hope you stick around and enjoy the fun here.

Guys, I began perseverating tonight. When you screw down the crown "completely," how much force do you use. In looking at the crown on the crown, I found tonight I could align it "right side up" so to speak, without exerting too great an effort. Is there such a thing as too tight, so far as the gaskets go? Please help.

Well, you don't want to really get it tooooo tight! When the crown stops turning, then just exert that tiny bit of extra pressure and that's it!!! STOP!! No more pressure is required after that!!

And to test how much pressure you've exerted in the first place, just try to unscrew it slightly and it should come loose quite easily....without too much strength (or torque) required.

JJ

PS: And for Heaven's sake do not force and try to get it into alignment just 'cause you want to see the crown standing straight up....that is not important at all.....you will "crush" the seal that is harboured inside the crown and accelerate its wear and tear and eventual usefulness as a hermetic seal!!
