Serial Number in Chapter ring

My new SS Daytona has rolexrolexrolex... on the chapter ring but no serial number. A call to Rolex in NYC confirmed that changes are added gradually and indeed some new Daytonas have rolexrolexrolex.. but no serial number, eventually all Daytonas will have both. This adds some special value to my ss Daytona, my opinion only.

If that's the case, that's a pretty cool transitional. I'd rather have your setup than the serial number as well!

All things are usually done gradually by Rolex. It is very cool how yours doesnt have the serial number. I agree with Ruben and would rather have your set up as well.

Interesting transition. You'd think they'd go ahead and include the SN?

Any variation is a good thing as long as Rolex is the one doing it. I've been reading up on Daytonas lately, and there are scads of variants. Subtle and rare variations are what drives the collectors market in anything out there! Good score!

It is called the chapter ring. Makes sense? The movement is called the caliber.

my SS Black Daytona does have the Serial on the ring

Just phoned my AD. The senior employee there know NOTHING about this special combination ("ROLEXROLEX" inscription on the chapter ring, but NO serial number at six o'clock).

But then again, he said it just might be possible since some of the "old" SS Daytonas were still in stock at Rolex S.A. and that the chapter ring inscription had just begun to phase in on the SS Daytona.

He also said that he - to be honest - did not pay so much attention to such details.

Anyway:

If you consider the variations of the SS (116520) Daytonas since their launch in year 2000, you would have:

1) The "Thin Hands" Daytona (early F-series)

2) The "Fat Hands" Daytona (mid to late F-series and onwards. NO chapter ring inscriptions yet).

And then this special combo we hear of now:

and (now + eventually):

4) The "Fat Hands" will "full" inner chapter ring inscriptions.

So until now we have THREE transitional SS Daytona models.

Although I - for my part - would prefer either NO inscriptions at all on the chapter ring OR the "FULL" chapter ring inscriptions (latter since non-WIS buyers would tend to be afraid that it is a FAKE if it is the version with the "ROLEXROLEX" inscription ONLY), I would think that the above transitional "combo" number 3 just might become VERY collectible due to this odd constellation.

No worries about the lack of serial number in the chapter ring is a fake, just call the NYC Rolex service center and ask. There is variability in what dealers know or care to know. Especially dealers with 10+ watch brands and hundreds of models/variation for all brands. As with any and all things collectible, a Daytona with a slight variation adds something.If not to others, then to me.

Just to make it clear I DO NOT WORRY that it is a fake.

Just stating that NON WIS might expect to see BOTH details ("ROLEXROLEX" + Serial # to be present on the chapter ring) on a current SS Daytona in a buying situation.

And - as I stated myself - for _WIS_ (like you and us all here on TRF and discerning buyers/collectors) it might become a desirable transitional Daytona.
