My visit to the AD

I took off an hour early from Spacely Sprockets last week and paid the local Rolex dealer a visit. This place also has a great selection of Omega, Tag, Breitling and Panerei.

I actually started at the Breitling counter. It's been 10 years since I've had anything other than a heavy Seiko on my wrist. The Breitlings were bricks! It is insane how heavy and solid they feel. I looked at the B-1, but honestly, if I'm going to get a quartz with a wizwheel bezel, it's going to be the Seiko or Citizen. The Breitling Avengers and Superoceans do seem solid though. The bling factor turns me off. These are too hip right now, much like Tag in the 90's.

I moved to Rolex. After the Breitlings, all of the Rollies felt light. I always liked the idea of a Sea-Dweller, but ruled it out after seeing how high it sat on my wrist. The new GMT II with ceramic bezel was beautiful, but out of my range. The TT blue sub was also beautiful, and would be my choice in that price spectrum. It also happens to be my wifes favorite, especially since she wants a similiarly priced TT MOP Datejust. I didn't really consider the EXP II, as I don't like the idea of a fixed bezel, plus my boss has one. As expected, the Black/Red Pepsi GMT II really spoke to me, and is candidate #1. The Black sub is a close second, especially since I nearly killed a 100m Seiko at the ocean this weekend. I was doing nothing more strenuous than swimming and body surfing. Maybe if I find an aftermarket pepsi bezel for the sub....

I checked out the Omegas and loved the black Seamaster with sword hands, and also its GMT twin. The PO's were all too big and heavy, much like the SD and most of the Breitlings.

I'm pulling the trigger within 24 hours. The quarterly bonus is in the bank, and I've got condensation in my Seiko.


Oh, I looked at an Invicta at a jewelry store at the beach. It's not bad. Might make a good body surfing watch.

A SD is a midget against the 42 or 45mm PO.Large watch,rather a PAM,than a PO.PAM sits better on the wrist,more sought after too ...

The Black/Red GMT is a good choice. But so is the sub.

I can also tell you the Omega Seamaster you looked at is a great watch. Very rugged and reliable! Comfortable and has great lumination, and about 1/2 the price of the Rolex. I had one I wore every day for about 3 years and it took a beating while working in Iraq and Cambodia. I gave it to my brother, who is in a Federal Law Enforcement Job (DOS DSS on Sec. Rice's Protective Detail) and he took it all through his 8 months of Federal LE training and now wears it on the job and the watch is still performing flawlessly!
