I feel for the guy, it's easy to be taken if you do not do your homework first. I know many people who no nothing about Rolex who have dropped big bucks on Rolex if they had not been at an AD buying the watch they could have been ripped off and they would have never known they had been taken. ADs are the only way to go, could you imagine an AD selling a fake, you discover it then call Rolex. Heads would roll.

Agreed--except my minimum price for doing so would be a lot less than $12K.

I love the idea of eBay, Craig's List, etc., but would never buy any sort of high end any thing that way. I participate in a high end classical guitar forum, and we spot fakes on eBay all the time. It's practically a running joke.

My bottom line is I will never buy anything of value from someone one I don't know, period. I'm sure I've missed out on a lot of great deals in my life but it's worth it to me for the peace of mind.

As far as not understanding the mentality of thieves, after 20 years in the criminal justice system I can say I understand them all too well. Generally speaking, they have no empathy for their victims, yet they would be outraged if you stole from them. They don't bother to justify their actions because they have no conscience, but if you try to pin them down basically they'll tell you if you let yourself get ripped off, then you deserve it because you're stupid.

That's just the way it is.

When ever you do something bad to someone it usually comes back to you. That may not mean anything to you when you been robbed, but it is true. With that being said, you cant live your life with a blindfold on either. KARMAS a bitch.

Of course in a way I feel sorry for the guy, and it is a dear lesson learned.

But then again, he has only himself to blame, since he could have either:

1) Bought from an AD OR
2) Done his "home work" well and not just trust a seller he does not know.

That is so sad. It's interesting that there have been no reports here about fake ceramic models. Has anyone seen/heard of a fake 116713?
