Any guesses as to age?

A local jewelry store has a pre-owned Explorer II with a T - < 25 dial, some patina on the markers, and the older "plain" clasp without the brick look. Unfortunately I was in a hurry and didn't want to wait for the watchmaker to remove the bracelet to see the serial number. I know the T - < 25 dial was used for quite a while through the mid '90s, but I'm curious to know when the bracelet changed?

If it's still there on Friday I may go back for it, since they are giving away an iPad 2 with any purchase over $2500. They were asking $2999, which could be pretty reasonable depending on the age.

Thanks!

Its probably model 16570. So---if tritium no lug holes. approx 1990-1999ish or maybe later. An Explorer enthusiast will post more info I am sure.

Lugholes where used into 2000 something? 2002?

"Swiss" dial debuted 2000?

I would guess the watch is older than 1999.

Yeah, some google image searches showed the "brick" bracelet on an X serial. So I'm guessing this is from the '80s. Not sure if that's a good price still...plus there's always the chance that the bracelet isn't original.

Perhaps the most definite and concise method.

price may be OK, but you have to factor in 500-600 for service. the best deal i've seen is a friend who paid 2800 for a serviced lug hole/tritium expII (can't remember the serial), but that was 18 months ago. rarely see them less than 3k now.

It does come with a 1 year warranty offered by the jeweler, which makes it intriguing. I had never been that interested in the EXP II (or the iPad for that matter) but I have a feeling for $2999 I could easily recoup my losses if I decided to flip them.
