What steps do you take after buying an Ebay Rolex?
You could spend days educating yourself on every Rolex model on ebay... The more research done the more choices you realize. After all this reading on how to not get scammed or screwed on buying Rolexes on ebay, I have read any information regarding the steps once you receive in the mail your new Rolex from an ebay seller.
What are yall's recommendations afterwards, besides uploading some nice high res picts. here? ? Should it be taken in to be verified for authenticity? Thanks! |

Posting after having bought from ebay leaves few options for advice.
The deed is done. I personally would take the watch in to a certified Rolex watchmaker for a thorough inspection ASAP.

CLR's here run about $400....How much are inspections do you suppose? Or perhaps it would be wise to get it CLR'd and if it was fake, then you would be notified?

Pay with your amex via Paypal. I've bought more than 10 watches from eBay and only had 1 that had any issues. The seller refunded my money but you always have the chargeback option if you run into a problem. Always view feedback and return policy before bidding.
Many are anti eBay but I've found 2 gems on there this year. Do you research and have fun. Be sure to ask questions on here if you have them. After you get the watch have an AD or watchmaker check it out for you and post some pictures. I would recommend an appraisal for insurance purposes as well. |

It seems you're very concerned about how to buy on eBay and not be "taken". Why not save the risk and find a good deal here on TRF?

I bought my Rolex on eBay and when I received it I immediately took it to my local certified Rolex dealer and had it checked (it was real of course) anyway I would take it to my local Rolex dealer for authentication. Hope this helps.

Personally I would not purchase Rolex or something of this nature on Ebay, this is just me (unless from some of the well known sellers on Ebay but the prices here on TRF are so much better )
I certainly would take it to an AD and have the authenticity confirmed, this should not cost more than about $50-100 IMO Lets see some pics of what you bought

I bought a hard to find T-Bird on ebay and love it. What I did was post the auction link in the Watch Out forum before I offered, then posted high res pics of the watch and movement after I got it. The experts here blessed it both times and I'm confident it's real. It also helps that I picked a fairly obscure model that not faked near as often as something like a 16610.

It seems a bit unfair to categorize all Ebay Rolex sellers as scamers. The are trusted members here that sell on eBay and grey dealers that have been recommended by members that sell on eBay.

The steps I would take with EBay would all be in the opposite direction as I ran away.

It only seems like you were outbid by $20. The fact is, you have no idea how much a winner's maximum bid was, because the auction ends once no one else is competing. In theory that other person could have been willing to pay hundreds more but didn't have to, as long as the other bidders were knocked out.

Good Lord. EBay = big trouble. Dont ever buy rolex, bose, louis vuitton, tiffany, or any high end luxury item on ebay.Im not saying it never works out but it is a crap shoot. If you do make sure you pay with a credit card on paypal. Paypal does not have your back. You will have to cancel with your credit card then block paypal from pulling the funds back out of your personal account later. Paypal are Slimy SOB's

Being safe on eBay and on PayPal takes a little doing. I'd rather we don't start dragging problems with those sites into TRF.

One thing to keep in mind is that almost any real watch tech can verify that a watch is a Rolex. What takes a bit more effort is determining that all the parts are true Rolex and are correct for the model/case. |

Ebay can be risky, but buy the seller first before you bid. I would check the trusted sellers right here in TRF first.

Yep. Nothing wrong with the Bay and as Matt said...there are gems to be found at eBay. Just be careful, do some research, ask questions to seller before you buy (if they are helpful that is a good sign), and as on this forum or anywhere BUY THE SELLER. IF a seller has been selling since 1999 and has sold 1400 Rolex watches...ah your probably safe (buckojoe in this example).
Now if you buy a Rolex from a guy that only bought Rave T-Shirts, train sets and used baseball cleats...well your odds of "failure" go up greatly . |

Well if your new watch ticks in one second increments you better start getting nervous...
