Have you seen both in person? Which one jumps more at you?
I would also think about which one matches the persona of how you'd like to be perceived. This is just my personal interpretation. To me, the Sub portrays an image as an adventurer or explorer. On the other hand, I think that the GMT portrays more of a jet set lifestyle. Possibly a corporate professional traveling multiple time zones, a pilot flying multiple time zones, or a wealthy individual having homes/lives in multiple time zones. Anyway, just my interpretations. SS to fly under the radar in terms of people noticing it. TT for a touch of flash. You can't go wrong. Both are great watches! Have fun with it!

A huge thanks to all who took the time to express ther thoughts on the GMTiiC or Sub.C choice. I have made my mind up and I will be going for the GMT ii in Gold/SS with the Black dial. I definately prefer the GMT in the gold over the Submariner. I may at a later date get the SS sub to add to it, then have the best of both I think. I will be ordering it today. Thanks all, much appreciated.

Get the GMT. I had the exact same dilema about 10 months ago. I never really could decide but a TRF trusted seller had the 116713 at a price I couldn't pass up. I've never regretted the choice - not even for a second.

this is the correct approach. GMTIIc TT is, as has been said in this thread, the best TT sports model out there. |

Exactly.
Look at both watches, side by side, in person and the choice will become clear. I wanted a sub until I looked at both watches in the flesh. The GMT looks SO much nicer in person. The only reason I have a sub now is because it is BLUE. If they made a YG GMTIIc in blue there would be no question.

In 2006 (I think), I was returning from a trip overseas, while still in the Navy, when in Heathrow I stopped at the Rolex store to look around. I saw the TT GMT IIc and fell in love. The salesman asked me what was stopping me and I answered, "my wife". He laughed and said, "well, she can only stay mad at you so long you know."
That line has stuck with me ever since. I didn't buy it, but I was tempted. Best looking TT IMO. |
