Question Re 116619 Blue Sub 18K white gold

This is a beautiful watch... in the photos. I've never seen this watch in real life. For those of you who have it, how long does it stay beautiful? I would imagine that 18K gets scratched up within days, and thereupon in the long run look severely beat up. If this is the case, how often do you have to take it to the jeweler to get it polished to keep it looking like it should?

Second question: I wonder if the white gold is truly white. In the photos, it looks white. However, all white gold I've ever seen is a tinge of yellow to it. Is the white gold on this watch rid of any and all yellow?

The WG is a pretty soft metal, if your affected by your watch getting a little scratched/beat up then this one may not be for you The PCLs (Polished centre links) I should imagine would be scratch magnets!

Below I will post a few pictures for you.. the 18k white gold is quite a bright metal compared to SS.. It has more of a "gleem" to it, and in certain lights can look a little yellow.. I would recommend you go to the AD and try one on, its a VERY heavy watch and feels really hefty on the wrist..! (not a bad thing)..

Yes I agree with Dino on the colour...... Its very white and bright (stunning actually) in most daylight conditions but can take on an almost golden look in subdued lighting.

In terms of scratches I have not found I have had any other than a couple of very slight swirls on the clasp primarilly from desk diving....... But I don't do a manual job and am also pretty careful in terms of banging my wrist on door knobs etc.

So I wouldn't worry about scratches and I think because its WG they show less than YG anyway.

Bro yes, this is white gold.

But not just any white gold.

It is a special Rolex white gold that is solid and will last an eternity.

Also it weighs a lot............it is definitely nothing like Stainless Steel.

and that (imo) is part of the charm, it's not so in your face as YG, nor as showy, to most others it's just another SS watch

I've never understood the necessity of white gold. After all if you're gonna' wear a gold watch you want it to look different than a stainless watch, don't you?

Those were my feelings before I actually tried on a 116619, Blue Sub in 18K white gold. Having seen and worn one first hand, I've come to realize just how impressive the white gold is. Try it yourself, you'll be convinced. They are incredible. Now, If I could just afford one . . .

It's an awesome watch. Yea gold scratches pretty easy. Just how it is. It weighs a lot but it's my Rolex grail. in the Sun the watch is stunning!!!!

The White gold sub is a Stunning watch and as the guys had mentioned the white is very white on it and it doesn't scratch any easier then a Steel model... so you can wear it and enjoy it for as many years as you wish.

Unfortunately gold, whether it's yellow or white, scratches rather easily given its softness, therefore you will need to get used to it. However, I would personally wait until the watch needs a service to have it polished instead of getting rid by any small hairline that appears on it because there is always a maximum of times you can do it and I would rather wait for RSC to take great care of it!

As for the color of white gold I've always seen it as really white (as mentioned, Rolex develops and makes its own alloys so it's unlikely that you will see any different shades of it in their watches). My guess is that the yellow-ish color you can find on a white gold watch may be due to color and light shades in the pictures!

A beauty of a watch and as said already a good heft to it on the wrist. I personally love it without the rather tacky looking diamond dial which is strange for me to say as a d dot on a DD is stunning.
I also agree with FTB that the colour tinges you see are nothing but tricks of shade and light. As for the whiteness of gold,Rolex as already mentioned forge their own gold and unlike other manufactures do not plate gold white with rhodium but actually blend it in thus creating a much truer 'whiter' metal.

My two pence... I wear gold watches more or less on a daily basis, so can speak from my own experience. Provided you are somewhat careful and sensible (and, by that, I don't mean treat them with kid gloves but, equally, don't do heavy manual work wearing them either), then gold holds up just fine. Worn in a sensible way, a gold watch won't look "severely beat up" in the long run. At least mine don't.

I can assure you Rolex WG is very white. Here is my WG sub Next to my YG sub, and a wrist shot I just took of my WG Daytona. No yellow dirty tinge like on most low carat WG jewelry.

Rolex is the best!!
