Customs is usually the buyer's responsibility so you are very lucky. I'm assuming customs is just returning the watch to sender?

You just have to pay the taxes, import duties, etc . . .

Rolex USA. is the sole importer of Rolex watches & products into the United States. Just the way it works.

Rolex USA has an agreement with customs where if a Rolex watch comes into the US and customs finds it, they immediately contact a law firm in NYC and (in my experience) they return the watch to the seller. Then you get a letter from the law firm explaining why this happens and basically telling you that you're SOL.

It does not matter if it's a new or used piece. I learned this the hard way.

I have read somewhere that they are entitled to confiscate the watch. Who knows.

I didn't mean that he's lucky because Austrailians are sneaky bastards. I meant that he's lucky to get the money back from a seller from a different country. Our law enforcement can't help him with a foreign seller!

BTW : here you pay 6 % import taxes and than 21 % VAT on the total amount . . . on the dollar price
The price is not transferred to Euro's :-(
So on that amount we lose about 30 % . . .extra since there is no currency conversion made . . :-(

But still the Rolex and other watches are cheaper in the US even with those taxes added . . . ;-)
