Still considering getting a Vacheron Const. Overseas.


Here is what I like about this watch:

42mm diameter, yet only 9.5 mm thick, so sits nice and flat on the wrist.

Enclosed within an Anti-magnetic case.

Company has a really rich history.

Anti-reflective dial.

Simple, sporty, yet elegant at the same time.

Very comfortable and sturdy well made bracelet.

Water resistance of 150 meters.

Well proven JLC movement, improved upon and modified by VC.

Textured Dial.

Several people I have PMd who own the Chronometer Date/Time version have had nothing but positive things to say. They state they take their watch through many sporting extremes and adventures. Really like the AR coating crystal and anti-magnetic cases.

Prices for the watches, after discounts you can usually get from an AD or Grey Dealer are around $7000-$7500 for the Chronometer and around $10,500 for the Chronograph.

I am looking at getting the Chronometer as like the simplicity and thinness. But, if I wanted a Chronograph watch, the VC would be my first choice as well. Again, love the AR crystal and anti-magnetic case. Also 150 meters water resisitance is pretty good for a Chrono.

The Chrono would be my pick, what a great looking watch! The date between 4 and 5 seems out of place to me and doesn't flow well IMHO with the regular dial.

Regarding your previous posts this seems like a great watch for you although the Chrono is a little pricey. Good luck and let us know the decision.

I actually like the date between the 4 and 5. Kobold, GP, and Blancpain does something similiar. What I like is it gives a uniform dial in terms of the hour makers, especially at night. I like having the 3,6,9 and 12 hour markers. Must just try and decide now. The better lum than Rolex and non-reflective crystal is what really interest me.

this is the dual time model i like the most from overseas collection ....
one of the best looking sport watch out there .... personally i liek the looks much better than audemars piguet offshore

VC Overseas and AP Royal Oak collection are often compared. Here are some of reason IMHO that VC wins over.

In the regular Date/Time Chronometer version.

VC= 150 meter water resistance, AP 50 meters
VC= Anti Magnetic Case AP= nothing
VC = Better lumination
VC= AR crystal

On the Chrono version, Again VC wins as has 50 meters more WR than the Royal Oak Offshore and also the Chrono version as well has the Anti Magnetic Case.

Another thing, is the VC models run about a $1000 -$1500 less than AP.

Well, I like the look of both the white and black faces, in both the Chronograph and Chronometer versions. But, I will probably go with the Black face models, as I find it easier to see the hands on those models, more contrast.

I am really tempted to sell all my Rolex watches, and buy both a Chronometer and Chronograph and leave it at that for my collection, with two watches.

The service fee on the Chronograph is a set fee that covers everything, but it is pricey at $1500! (but that is once every 5-7 years). Less for the Chronometer.

Love the engraved ship on the Case Back. Just states "Overseas Adventures".

Now, you want to see some cool watches, that are works of art, see the Tribute to Explorer models. One thing that is pretty cool about Vacheron watches, you can just imagine statemen, dignitaries and Explorers having Vacheron Watches with them in the Late 1700s and early 1800s. Hec, their were people with Vacheron Pocket watches in America, before it became the USA!!!!!

Check out the unique function of how the time is read. How the Hands are hands of a Navigational Compass!! And of course the Antique Map Dials!!!

Chad if you don't mind me asking whats the best price you've seen on the chrono version, I've SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!! considered this on several occassions, but the fact i couldn't pick one up here UK at a price that's easily obtainable overseas always went against the grain, best I could get here was about £7K+ in the duty free, but ZEETAN in KL is doing it at $10300!!!! not an AD though but reputable!!!!

I have seen the Chronograph versions for around $10,500 US.

I personally would choose the VC over the Daytona. Both are about the same price. The advantages the VC has over the Daytona:

Anti-magnetic case
Anti-reflective Crystal
150 Meters Water Resistance
Really Nice engraving on the case back
Date feature
Better Lumination
316L steel (lower nickel content) opposed to Rolex 904 High Nickel content steel

Would also choose the VC Non-Chrono over the Milgaus for the following:

More Subdued, no Orange
Anti-reflective Crystal
150 Meters Water Resistance
Really Nice engraving on the case back
Big Date feature
More rare than the Daytona

904L Stainless Steel:

Grade 316 is the standard molybdenum-bearing grade, second in importance to 304 amongst the austenitic stainless steels. The molybdenum gives 316 better overall corrosion resistant properties than Grade 304, particularly higher resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments.
Grade 316L, the low carbon version of 316 and is immune from sensitisation (grain boundary carbide precipitation). Thus it is extensively used in heavy gauge welded components (over about 6mm). There is commonly no appreciable price difference between 316 and 316L stainless steel.
The austenitic structure also gives these grades excellent toughness, even down to cryogenic temperatures.
Compared to chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steels, 316L stainless steel offers higher creep, stress to rupture and tensile strength at elevated temperatures.

Well, the advantage the VC has over the PP, is the anti-magnetic case, lower cost of course, and better lumination and better water resistance. Plus the VC is easier to find and buy! LOL LOL

Bighat, as regards to 904 SS vs 316L SS. 904 has a much higher nickel content. Many wearers of ROlex have complained at times to RSC and on various forums that they will get minor skin irritation due to the higher nickel content. The nickel get released when 904SS reacts with the salt that is projected in sweat dueing hot climates or athletic activities. THere have been a few people who have had more severe rashes.

The European Union recently passed new laws regarding Nickel content in jewlerey, and this may have an impact on Rolex and they may have to switch back to 316L SS. ROlex used 316L up until the late 80s. 904 is suppose be more corrosion proof than 316L, but 316 has stood the test of time. Have not ever seen any 316L watches rusting out even after hard use in salty oceans.

Nice watches to be sure. I like the engine turned dial(s) on the white one. The black chrono is to die for. Like the big date too. Fortunately, too rich for my blood right now. Compared to the Patek, the Vacheron is still pretty 'tooly'. Perfect combo of utilitarian and elegance to my eye. Again, nice watches...
