You're right about the prices being higher, but I spoke to one of the guys (one of the regular workers, not one of the stars) and he told me the truth about the whole set up. Two things: First, because of the show, they do expect to get more money for an item then out of a regular pawn shop, whether you like it or not I guess that makes sense. But he said it is really not THAT much of a difference, prices they have gotten for items since the show started are only around 10 - 15% higher. Second, he said those are asking prices, and when a sale is made it is never at the asking price; customers banter and get them down to a more reasonable number. It's all about the negotiation.

I found his insite straight forward and honest. If you were a good negotiator (which I'm not) I'll bet you could get a coveted item for a reasonable price.

I was told the only time the guys on the show work is when they are filming, other than that they never even step foot in the place. They sell hot dogs in the parking lot, and people just sort of walk the store asking where Rick and Chum are.

If you are staying on the strip, dont waste your time with the cab ride down there. If for some reason you are staying downtown, it might be worth it to walk over to the shop.

I was there a few months ago and checked out the Rolex Sub Dates. They were hugely overpriced. All were in the $7,000 range regardless of age.

Even though I was wearing my Sub Date in plain view of the salesman, he pretended that I knew little about Rolex and Rolex pricing. Incidentally, the non-owner salespeople all work on commission.

The store itself is much smaller than it appears on TV. When I was there on a weekday afternoon, the place was crowded, mostly wth tourists.

I went there about 2 years ago in july hot as hell. The store is so much smaller than it looks on tv, which has been noted many times. If you do end up going there it is interesting to see some of the items they have, but if you're looking for deals this isnt really the place.

There is however a small pawn shop across the street and down the road about a 1 minute walk. Little more sketchy in there but some deals to be had.

There is a pawn stars shop here in Florida.. The show pawn stars was trying to sue them and make them change their name.. They said they were using the pawn stars name to get people to come to the shop here in Florida.. Funny thing is the pawn stars in Florida was around before the pawn stars show started..

Regarding the Shark, from the Watch Snob at AskMen:

Buying A Rolex (And Messing With A Good Thing)
Dear Snob,

I am interested in purchasing my first Rolex to add to my collection. My budget is $10,000, which limits the Rolex I can buy. I would like the blue Rolex Submariner that the company only produces in white gold to the tune of $25,000-$30,000, depending on where you purchase. My question to you is, is it frowned upon to purchase a black Rolex Submariner and have the blue dial and bezel placed on it? Rolex states it will void the warranty, which is not a good thing in my eyes. Since I would not be changing what is inside the Rolex (which is what counts in a watch), is there anything wrong with changing the bezel/dial?
Quote:
Mess with Rolex at your own peril. Do you really think it’s that easy to pull this off? Rolex has created a little-known complication known as “Tamper-Lock.” This detects if the watch has been opened by an unauthorized person or any non-approved parts have been added. Even though this voids the warranty immediately, Rolex built in additional punishment: the watch will stop running six months later.

I think that was a GMT?

Well since you don't have to crack the case to change the bezel insert I doubt it will void the warrantee. The shark is a Black SS SubC with the Blue Bezel Insert from the WG SubC.
