Opinions on this 1500, first foray into vintage??
Hi All,
Starting looking at vintage pieces and starting off small to begin with. Have seen this model, I believe it's 1500, automatic, blue dial, no quickset date. Supposed to date to the 1970's. Just a couple queries: 1. The dial looks "vintage" to me, but am worried about the marks at 6pm/7pm, is that rust? 2. Also does anyone have this blue dial, it looks dark navy blue to me, was there a lighter blue available, but maybe it's just the photo? 3. Any other info on this model? Any tips appreciated. Cheers. |

yes, it is a ref 1500. dial is ok, OT swiss OT indicates 1972/1973. bracelet is ok for that period. Looks nice but more pics will help. How much are they asking for it?

I sold one exactly like this a while ago, what You see between the 6 and 7 marker is paint chipped off on the dial edge.
Be great, as mentioned, to know the price? The one I sold on behalf went for 2K NZ. |

Thanks, have attached a closer pic.
Kiwinz - is the dial more navy rather then light blue? Seller thinks it dates to 1970's but I should able to ask for the first 4 digits of the serial number to date it correctly I presume? Asking price works out to 2,393.42USD using xe.com to convert - expensive? - a 2002 model would probably cost the same but lack some of the history. This is all part of the detective work and fun when chasing vintage models ![]() |

Pricey....and you will need the whole serial for an approximate date. I'd pass.

To be honest, I would pass as well.
Too pricy, as the dial has chipped and also I found the watch quite small with 34mm, same with the 19mm Oyster which tapered down to a rather small clasp. The guy who has the 1500 I sold changed the watch to a Explorer 1 look [ dial/hands changed and Cyclops removed] now, and that I must admit looked sharp. |

There are nicer examples out there, for less money. Keep looking, that's half the fun!

The size doesn't put me off. 34mm is surprisingly comfortable and wears very well.
However, the chipped dial and high price do put me off. Cheaper, better examples of the 1500 can be had. Patience is key Sent from my using Tapatalk

Thanks everyone for their input, will continue my search unless the price is right.
Didn't realise it was a chip, looks like some uncareful work must have been done with the dial in the past, would be impossible to chip whilst wearing it I guess. Thanks again. Cheers. |
