Lets speculate on next years Baselworld 2013.
Is it too early??
Only about a half a years time away. So what do you think? Will we see new Daytona models? (possible ceramics, or a larger size) Will we be seeing more Sky Dweller options. I doubt it will come in SS as the movement is probably too costly to throw into a SS watch. Perhaps Rolex will unveil a new option for the DSSD? This one is doubtful to me because I see the DSSD staying a one-watch lineup. Thoughts?

I now never speculate on anything from Rolex at Basel because over the past 12 years or so I have been very disappointed.

I'd like to see a new Daytona - larger (42 mm) with a date complication.
But I expect we'll see further use of the Cerachrom bezel on exisiting models instead I would also like to see some more colour options for the SS Sub C and GMT II C, but don't expect this to happen Perhaps we'll see the midsize (and possibly ladies size) version of the new YM. Other than that, perhaps just additional variations of DJs and other existing models

Aside from the DD/DJ (I & II), there are only so many options for a reason, IMO. It allows each makeup to become a classic without overdoing like say, Hublot (no offense big bang lovers) with it's limited editions and special editions that are hard to track. I for one appreciate the consistency and love the fact that I knew when buying a Sub C in 2012, I will not regret it shortly after b/c Rolex went and released more options or a new dial that I like.

Are we really talking about this already???
I guess, since we are, I'm going with Psmith. Nothing exciting will come this year, just a few little ooo's and aaaaah's. Quote:

of for profit charity Hans Wisdorf foundation he established, which in turn is owned by a private trust...when I hear the phrase "private trust" ? Immediately I am thinking of a slow moving bureaucratic machine that is anti-everything. They buy gold - lot's of it - but what about complicated watches ? I guess their idea of a complication is the Sky Dweller at 60k a pop. Anyway dont let me get started...got to "watch" my blood pressure... |

Don't pop a clog Tempo,
There's a bright side to everything. Less watches to lust after and desire = More money in the bank/under the mattress.

A SS Daytona-c would be interesting, but I will try to occupy my mind with other things than upcoming models next year. I think Tudor once again will outshine Rolex.

Pepsi Black Bay (or probably rename it as a GMT). And Tudor will be back in the US market with a big hit.

Is Tudor making a comeback confirmed or speculation?

I just want the ceramic PEPSI and I am all done with ROLEX. Like Padi56 said, they have been nothing but disappointment over the last few years. They might not be a publicly traded company but by looking at their products, they sure act like a publicly traded company because anytime a company goes public, their quality goes down and looking at basel 2012, all I can say to Rolex is "what were you thinking? Or were you?"
I am definitely looking for pre-ceramic Rolexes for my collection --- The only watch I think is worth the priceis their DSSD ---- |

Wish Rolex would offer a vintage-style Datejust with the mixed Arabic/Romans/batons "California" dial and Mercedes hands. Nah, it will never happen.

I feel the same way too --- ROLEX is the reason that everysingle Rolex i own, has appreciated ---Had I bought something else, I would not have much to show for it today. Their new models don't really excite me because there is a drastic change in shape and materials and with that drastic change, comes a break in history ----Everytime I see a PEPSI, I think of chuck yeager and PAN AM --- everytime I see a GMT2C, I do not think of them ---yes,the 2C is derived from the PEPSI but it is not the PEPSI --- it has no history except modern history. I think Rolex had to take that action to go BIG otherwise, their name alone would not have been enough to win consumers, since most conusmers are consumed with BIGGER IS BETTER mentality-----For me personally, I can not dish out the cash for something really thin and slim, like th PATEK for example. I just do not appreciate the movmement or finishing enough to do so. Maybe I am too immature but I like beefiness to accompany my watches.....

perhaps 2013 baselworld would yield:
1. pepsi or coke GMTIIC (or maybe a rootbeer TT GMTIIC?) 2. DJII fluted bezel on jubilee bracelet 3. Daytona versions (maybe expect a green one for the anniv model?) 4. maybe a SS YMII? white dial with black ceramic bezel? 5. 41mm Oyster Perpetuals? |

Well I doubt any brand new model will be released I thing the Daytona could get a ceramic bezel and the YMII might come out in SS since they did a TT model. Only thing I'm pretty sure of is there will be new DJ dials because there always is. Bottom line is there is no way to know wait until Basel. I'll say there won't be a Pepsi GMT. I think it would've shown up already if there was going to be one I think it would've shown up. I doubt anything big this year as all the models have been updated recently and Rolex usually goes many years before updates.

Doubt the YMII comes in SS as the movement is far too complicated to satisfy the SS price point.
Don't think a 20k SS would really work for Rolex. But who knows.

Not going to happen. The models were renewed very recently (Rolex time) and notwithstanding Chris/GMT Master's criticisms, it's a very reliable and solid movement that's as good as anything out there (yes, the 8500, but see later in my post). Maybe in a few years Rolex will try to generate some buzz with a new movement that's head and shoulders above what's out there (assuming others make a big push), but, no need for the foreseeable future. I think the percentage of people who will buy an 8500 movement PO over a 3135 Submariner solely because of the movement is very, very, very small. |
