Bracelet Boil

So while at the AD yesterday I requested a bracelet clean in their superb ultrasonic cleaner for my newest acquisition (a preloved 14060M). I was informed that they would need to keep the watch for 48 hours as the tech likes to keep the watch in the cleaner at times for 24 hours. She also informed me that they heat up their water to boiling temps to really get the gunk out.

Fast forward to today and I decide to do the same, DIY style. I boiled the bracelet putting it on a vegetable metal strainer to keep it from direct heat contact in the pot; in other words, so the bracelet wasn't lying on the bottom of the pot. I let it boil for 30 full mins. I then poured the freshly boiled water into my ultrasonic cleaner and let it cycle for about 2 hours. My ultrasonic cleaner only does 3 min cycles, so I watched a 2 hour movie and kept resetting it every time it stopped.

Needless to say the water remained too hot to the touch the entire time (2 hours) and the amount of gunk and overall filth which could lead to premature bracelet stretch is surprising.

After I completed the ultrasonic cycle, I sprayed it with Veraet, gave it a soft toothbrush scrub, rinsed with fresh water, wiped it down, and dried with a microfiber cloth.

Wow, 24 hours in their ultrasonic cleaner! I've never done over 15 minutes.
I may have to try this process

I think going into a hot tub is alot more fun and get the same results. The water currents and all the chemicals get into every place dirt and grim likes to hide. I put the watch right in front of water jet.

Those are some novel ways to get your bracelet clean. Maybe I'll strap an Oyster to a lobster before putting him in the pot!

After that much heat, I would recheck the link screws. The loctite is surely gone. May need to re-loctite them, or they could work themselves out. End result not good....

Depends on the type of loctite. Some require heating to >400F/200C to break the bond ... boiling water is obviously only 212F/100C
But checking is certainly a good suggestion.

I put watch bracelets in my US Cleaner all the time but I would never put a Watch head in one.
