How long does your Submariner stay wound/running?

Hello Everyone!

Earlier this month, I bought a TT Submariner 116613 LN. I really love this watch and would ideally like to wear it daily.

Unfortunately, I work in a dusty plant environment so I never wear my nice clothes to work, let alone my Rolex, because everything gets dirty easily.

I wear my Sub in the evenings and weekends. I've noticed that after a day or so of not wearing my watch, it has stopped running and needs to be wound again to get her up and running.

Has anyone experienced this with their Submariner after just one day idle?

I wind my watch the suggested 40 turns before use but cannot get it to stay running for more than a day without wearing it.

Any suggestions and comments will be greatly appreciated!

I do believe that yor power reserve on a full wind should be around 48 hours, someone correct me if I'm wrong. If you're only wearing it at night it probably isn't getting enough movement to top off the reserve, that would explain why you have to wind it after a day but after a full wind it should go about 2 days.

i dont wear my sub to work. i leave it in its box, it can go about 2 nights maybe a little more without stopping. when the last time yours had service?

A fully wound Sub should have 42 hours of reserve, give or take.

You just have to come to grips with the reality that you have a mechanical watch that must be kept wound in order to keep time, whether it is wound manually or by the motion of your body.

Wearing it as you do, it wouldn't be out of the ordinary to have to wind it every other day.

By the way, your Sub should be able to handle dust, as it is, as they say, hermetically sealed.

The short answer is yes, your watch should run more than 24 hours on a full wind, even just sitting in a drawer.

Well that depends on how you are winding it now to fully wind your you will need around 40 full crown turns clockwise only.Then your watch should run between 39-48 hours while off the wrist give or take a hour or so.And even when wearing it will do no harm whatsoever to give it a full manual wind just to top the mainspring power reserve up say once a week or so, more if not wearing it at least 8 hours plus a day and reasonably active.

Greetings! I bought my watch brand new from an AD here in the Toronto area earlier this month. I haven't had my Sub serviced yet.

I think the salesman had mentioned that a good time to get my Rolex serviced is in 5-7 years from now. I gotta wait till then I guess as my watch is fairly new.

Make sure you're winding it 40 COMPLETE turns. Sometimes folks count each time they spin the crown...which is likely closer to a half-turn.

Sounds like a good plan..

If you have been noticing only a day of power, after you have worn it for a day, it likely has run down. Your watch will only retain as much as you put into it either by wearing or by winding.. Most folks simply do not put a full wind into their watch while wearing it, even if they wear it every day..

Your wearing habits may call for a good watch winder when you are not wearing it..

You bought it to wear, so wear it all day, every day, just give it a rinse under clean water a couple of times a day if you're worried about the dust.

I agree, they are made to be worn. Besides day-to-day bumps and scratches there is no harm in wearing it every day, even in a dusty environment. Just make sure you clean it every now and again. I think the worst thing dust can do is contribute to bracelet stretch/wear but it would take years of never cleaning to get to a point where you would even notice it.

Compared to my other rolex watches, the sub runs out of power first. In my collection for comparison are:

116334 datejust 2 (blue dial, stick marker)
116333 datejust 2 (2-tone, slate dial with roman markers)
116250 SS Daytona white
116610 submariner

All are new, so service requirement shouldn't make an impact.

I put each in a winder so they don't stop when not wearing them.

Here's a quick update: I wound my watch the other night before setting the time and also afterwards a couple turns. It's been running strong till today. I definitely will use everyone's advice and try to keep it going.

The booklet that came with my 114060 says approx 48 hours. I have not done a controlled test yet.

I know 'normal' wear is a subjective term, but if I wear my Sub like say on a Friday, put it on about 7, take it off when I go to bed @ 11, it usually stops around 3 PM on Saturday (usually don't wear it - doing yard work, washing the car, etc.). I'm pretty active, so I figured that my movement would keep it 'fully wound', but I guess it doesn't? Will wearing it take it to the full power reserve? Or only winding? Should I be using my Shake Weight more?

I figure I'm getting a reserve of about 15 hours. But that's not winding, just wearing. And I tend to not wind it, but just set the time, put it on and it starts going as soon as I start moving.

Give it an extra few turns and keep an eye on it
