Advice needed on 1993 Rolex models
I'm a complete noob so bear with me... 20th wedding anniversary coming up and I want to give my husband a Rolex however am thinking of a 1993 model as that was the year we were married and it's something I think he will love. My father and grandfather wore Rolex (I think my father wore an Air King from the early 60s?). I'm a bit stumped as to what would be suitable and don't want to go into a salesroom until I've done some more research. I'm thinking possibly a Daytona or an Air King (My husband has a large wrist so Daytona is probably better? I really have no idea and apologise in advance for this.) Any advice appreciated.

What is your budget? The price difference between a 1993 AirKing and a 1993 Daytona is probably going to be close to $7500+.
Also, finding a perticular watch from a perticular year takes time. Also note, Rolex models within a range of serial numbers is an approximation only. Instead of losing your mind over dates, find the newest model of a perticular watch within your budget.

Well a 14000 AK is only $1800-2000... That's a big gap

may I suggest you ...
a seadweller 16600 Madam ????
something like this ( good also for diving .... ) and not too much expensive ... fantastic for heavy duty use and much cheaper than a Daytona ... moreover if you want a case produced by Rolex in 1993 you must buy a watch with case number beginning with the " X " letter. |

Finding the right year won't be too difficult.
You then really just need to decide between a Sports model (Submariner, Daytona, Explorer etc) or more of a Dress/semi-dress watch (Datejust, Day-date etc) I'd personally get him a 16570 Explorer II (white face i prefer, but each to their own) For me, it's the ultimate compromise between sports and dress watch. It goes with anything - jeans or a suit - is solid as a rock and nicely understated but classy at the same time. http://www.thewatchsource.co.uk/item...FYXMtAodAggAMg |

oh, and aim to pay in the region of £3,000-4,000. That one I posted is well over priced, was just the first hit on Google to show you the model itself...
PS - great gift idea by the way. And congratulations!! :-) |

I agree with Marcello on the Sea Dweller option! A Sea Dweller would suit his large wrist better, a Daytona though the same diameter wears much smaller!

I recently helped my wife find my first Rolex as a gift ... and I was thankful for her concern that the bracelet would fit my large wrist as soon as I received it. This took acquiring a few extra links, which the seller graciously handled. So, my advice is that once you focus on a particular watch, you also consider the type of bracelet, how it's sized, and your options for extending the bracelet if needed. (Being new to this myself, I'm not even sure what those options are.)
