Judy, regarding the tennis bracelets... they all are very nice. Don't know much about diamonds, but in general "bigger is better" appeals to me. Now, I do prefer white gold or platinum with diamonds, for what it's worth.

Yep, you totally deserve one of those.

Is that the Penn Square store? I don't go in there often... prefer Northpark but Penn does seem to have a larger watch selection.

Facebook rant and then I'm going to bed. I get a friend request from a long-lost buddy... we used to work together but she moved out of state and she'd gone through all kinds of problems with divorce and starting her new life... and in the process she cut off all contact with me. I'd send emails and try to call, but never a response. It was really upsetting at the time, but I eventually let it go. So, 10 years later she sends a FB friend request.... I accept, and write her a long note expressing how glad I am she's made contact again and how nice it will be to catch up.... that was four days ago. Not one peep from her. So frustrating! Why do people do stuff like this?

Okay... night night, all!

Ew, that metal looks groady. I don't know if it's worn or corroded or what... super macro is not kind to old watches.

Sure Carl will know exactly, but I'd say that the pin should have round rivet ends(not screw) and has somehow broke. Have to go to the watchmaker.

Some people are just really bad at keeping in touch, just have too much on their plate I guess. Strange she added you and not replied, sure she will soon. Who doesn't want to be friends with you.

If I could channel my energies into something productful, I would end my nursing career in a heartbeat. Well..no pun intended. LOL
A lot of things actually, I wasn't quite happy with studying history at University and always had an interest in jewelry (I wanted to become a jeweler in my younger years). I started to develop an interest much more in watches that got into the movement itself and this passion went to the point where I didn't want to simply collect them, I wanted to work in them and do something with my hands (I like to play with tools and fix things but don't have the chance of doing so very often). I didn't want to spend the rest of my life simply writing and studying things, as much as I enjoyed it at school it's different when you know you have to do it for a living.

I ended up subscribing to the school and couldn't be happier, the more I got into it the more I was interested in playing with any kind of movement (low end or high end, as long as it can work or be fixed), I really enjoy doing something with my hands and work with those parts, understanding how everything works. It's an interest that got into a passion as it would also involve work I wanted to do.

I still have the idea of doing some jewelry and welding but I don't know if I'll study that yet, I had a jewelry class and had a hard time (though the exam was a success) so I don't know if it'll be as easy for me...we shall see! Otherwise I may make some repairs or actual jewels as a hobby.

I'll be honest, I don't quite like ketchup (I'm more of a mustard and mayo type of guy) but those chips are indeed pretty good! Mind you, the "ketchup" is much more like a red tomato-ish powder they put on it...

I used to be completely anti-Facebook but decided to keep an open mind about it since a few years, now I don't quite care if people use it or not but you will not see me on it, I always refused to create myself an account...

As for friendship requests, I made a few of those over the years on TRF to people I enjoyed reading and to some friends I considered very kind on the forum, to me it means something to the point where it's not a mere name added to a list in my account. Perhaps she just saw your name and wants to have one big heck of a friends list? Kind of poor form if you ask me but who knows...

I think Wes nailed it here (did some research yesterday but haven't found anything, thank you my friend! ), I find it strange that the rivet would just break but if you take a look at your pin and find out it's a tube then perhaps it was one of those...

According to Rikki, those pins are actually full and riveted with a special tool that gives the end that mushroom look. It is possible that the previous owner (I trust this is a pre-owned watch, am I wrong?) broke his and had it replaced by one of those tubs with mushroom ends, you may simply buy another one of those and hammer the ends in the tube or buy another clasp (though it may be much more expensive).

In the meantime if you have a spare 20mm leather band it would give the watch a lovely yet different look.

Happy Friday Everyone!

Wow, sure was busy in the coffee shop last night while I was out.

Just catching up....let's see:

Judy - Yes on a tennis bracelet!

Art/Others - Have always liked Breitling too...had a Callisto model way back that I really enjoyed. LOVE the pilot bracelet!

Lisa - Ugh, Facebook! I'd be annoyed too at this gal....I'm not on FB myself, much to the dismay of all of my friends. Just can't be bothered to be honest.

Carl - Where's your package???

Bas..forgot to congratulate you on your 1000th post.

The bracelet will happen, just gonna have to contemplate which one. I love the classic look of the line of uninterrupted white bling across the wrist. Then again, the girdles of the diamond and the prongs might dig into my watch. The bezels encase the stone so no protruding girdles and hence,no scratching the side of the watch. The stations, well, I can put .25 x 13 and will be huge stones compared to the other bracelets with .08pts or .10 pts. LOL Im with Lisa, size matters! Still..Im confused.

Im not on FB either. I just cant stand the thought of being on there. Seems to occupy too much time. Being on a watch or diamond forum is bad enough!

Ketchup chips are good. Carl, try the Presidents Choice Load of Ketchup next time you get to a Loblaws owned grocery store. AWESOME.

Morning, all. Thanks so much for the information about the clasp, Wes and Carl. Upon close inspection, it seems the pin (should I be calling it a rivet, actually?) appears to be solid and not hollow. The ends are dented-looking and worn. Could it be that it had mushroom-type ends that have eventually worn down? I hope our AD watchmaker can replace the rivet at little cost, but I guess a new clasp wouldn't be the end of the world.

Facebook - yes, I have kind of a love-hate relationship with it. I'm a fair-weather user - mostly get involved in it when there are specific events of interest, such as my high school reunion and now, the city mayor race. A friend and colleague of my husband's is a current city councilman and is challenging the incumbent mayor, who has been in office for nearly a decade. I've never been involved in a political campaign before, and it's been quite interesting. So, it's kind of useful in certain situations.

Off to make breakfast for the kiddos and then maybe go to the zoo. It's a nice cool day - very rare in August. And school starts Monday.

Art..LOL It might be a Canadian thing. And like Poutine, not all Canadians like Ketchup chips.

Just got a text from my brothers friend! His flight comes in at 15:30p and Im going to be waiting in the parking lot. Will be fun. He's gonna hand me my brothers watch and then Im going to hand him his watch. He doesn't know it yet, but he's gonna be bringing home my bracelet when I order it. I'll be sure to tell him that part today.

Yeah, a Canadian thing.

Lisa, looks like you have 72F. I haven't felt that in a long time, unless I open the fridge. Says a high of 81 for you, better than the 100's that you've had. Some electric bill relief.

Facebook... I use it to look at pictures of watches and it's an easy way to keep in touch with people (now I only use that to ask someone something that is so urgent it can't wait until I have time to ask it in person.)

Downtown. I can't remember the man's name, but when I was picking up a watch there one day, he showed me the Breitling he was wearing, then when I showed interest, he brought out several from his own collection to show me. He has some rare and unique pieces.

sometimes it's best to say no thanks why send a request and then not have time to respond. or is it that she may not be a frequent visitor at fb and answer you later. you have no idea how people think sometimes. maybe she is still problematic and the best might be to stay away. just thinking

I agree with you guys about Facebook being strange and voyeuristic. This situation with my former friend is just weird... FB happens to be the vehicle but it is odd in any circumstance. We used to email back and forth a lot. I wrote her another message today, asking why she was interested in "friending" me if she wasn't interested in communicating. I think if there's no response in a few days I'll cancel the friend status. It's just too weird.

Zoo was very nice! I'll try to upload a pic or two from my phone later. We got to pet a horseshoe crab and also had lorakeet birds drinking out of our hands. We have a pretty good zoo.

Hi all...just posting a quick message before dinner. The watch looks awesome. Hardly worn at all. The seller ( who owns a jewelery store) didnt have any idea what age it was and said his watchguy said it was still well oiled. If I had to guess, not thinking he switched out anything was more like a 2009, 2010 or 2011 peice. The bracelet doesnt have scratches and you know Breitbling bracelets scratch up. I have no reason to doubt that its an authentic peice. Should I take it to an AD to authenticate it?
My friend left so quick to go fill out his flight records that I didnt give him his watch. I may end up with that Steinhart anyway. Eh, I'll think of that another day.
Will post pics when I get home tonight. Im happy with it. :-)

Think if you post a few pics of the colt, we'll be able to tell if it is real. Sure it'll be fine. Movement will be fine, it's not ticking in 1 sec increments is it

Think you may be able to tell the rough date of it by the serial, there is stamp on underside of the bracelet as well. Breitlingsource is a good place for all things breitling.
