So you washed your crystal with a gel/soap that contains alcohol, you took it to your AD and they told you you've 'washed off' the AR coating and you need a replacement crystal?
I didn't know the PO had an AR coating on the outside of the crystal, and I don't know whether it is actually ruined or not. I'd wash it a few times the coming week and rub/clean the crystal with a Tshirt like you clean it when it has fingerprints on it, and if it just doesn't go away you should take it back to the AD. |

Hi Jokr . You stripped the outer AR coating on your PO because you used alcohol solvent. That's bad news and sorry that it happened. Being in the eyeglasses business, I see that all the time.....AR coatings coming off the lenses because people use all sorts of chemicals to clean them.
So did your AD removed the rest of the coating? You still have the AR coating underneath the crystal so you should still be ok. I would leave it as is. Next time, just use mild soap and warm water. Please don't use any kind of chemical or polishing agents on the crystal. |

Well, Omega's have double-sided AR so the crystal is completely glareproof. The coating is nothing but a very thin film that is applied both underneath and above the crystal. You should still be fine with the top layer removed. I would not worry about it.

Ah I forgot to say what the specialist in the Omega AD told me.
Now the alcohol gel in my store have a little moisturizing hands, and the soap either. In My store. In my home, I wash with soap normal soap, and sometimes with detergent, sometimes with my fingers, sometimes with the cape cod yellow, and sometimes with my fingers and a soft toothbrush. I took in AD Omega, the specialist told me. The alcohol gel itīs very abressive to the AR, Or the detergent itīs very agressive to the watch, and I mixed both, not in the sametime of course. But he told too, before itīs already like this But i didnīt see, and was accumulating little by little and the results are what I show before.
