Should I sell my Daytona for a ROC?

Ok here is the deal. I am very big fan of the RO design. I currently have the 15400 with black dial. I am getting the RO diver very soon. Within a few weeks.

I am thinking of also flipping my Daytona to get a panda dial ROC. The only thing holding me back is the movement no being "in-house". So I ask you guys what you think I should do.

I know it brings the variety in my collection down quite a bit and that is not what concerns me.

I would. It's one of the best chrono movements out there. I would not let non-inhouse sway you.

I would not. Had Daytona and also love APs. For the ROC, it would have to be all RG, otherwise IMO the RO looks better.

I've had the Daytona and an ROC. I let go of the Daytona for two reasons, too small and no date. The ROC has more wrist presence and far more character. What does an in-house movement have to do with enjoying a watch?

Love the ROC but won't sell Daytona for it.

To me the movement issue with the ROC isn't as big a deal because it isn't an ETA. The F Piguet movement is of course in other excellent watches. And the earlier Daytonas with El Primero movements are arguably just as desirable as the Rolex 4130 ones.

So I am thinking of it because of the date function and the brushed finish. My Daytona looks great but it's kind of flashy for my tastes

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. This is flashy. I think a steel Daytona is kind of understated.

I have owned a 41 ROC, it was a great watch - very understated, extremely comfortable. The Daytona is IMO too small ( for me at least.) That said if the Daytona was bigger I would buy one instead of a the ROC as I found the AP a scratch magnet, interestingly I also found it difficult to sell and took a bigger than expected hit on it when it finally went.
If you already have a RO I wouldn't buy the ROC - it is by all accounts an entry level AP RO and by the sounds of things you've passed that level already

I feel you...just sold my ROC. Amazed how long it too to even get a couple interested people and sold for way less than what I was expecting...surprising for such an awesome watch.

I would get a RG ROC if you can as others have said, otherwise a Daytona Panda but in YG/WG with strap to compensate for the smallish size.

This pretty much mirrors my experience with my ROC. I loved the watch but when it came time to sell it, I took a bath on the resale.

That being said, you still need to buy what you really like. This isn't a business transaction for most of us. It's a hobby and a passion.

You know my feelings Johnny, but in the end you have to do whatever will make you happy. Good luck either way brother!

Now I'd go a step further and say that's beyond flashy into gaudy. But I guess the PCLs and the dial are what draws your attention to the SS Daytona. But this is compared to my other watches which have more of what I'd describe as a "matte" finish. I was thinking from pictures that the AP looked more "matte."

This is really an interesting discussion though. I've never been this conflicted about a pair of watches. Maybe its because of the expense involved that many of us can't or choose not to have both. I do know that the more I wear the Daytona the more I like it. I've just been a little worried about what comments/issues I may have with my patients when we finally get into short sleeves.

Thanks for all your comments. I am still undecided but leaning towards the ROC.

If I did ever want to sell it I don't think it will be to much trouble as I am buying a pre owned 39mm Panda Dial. AP doesn't make these anymore and I really like that size on this model.

I guess we will see after I get the diver in how I feel about it. The Daytona was fun but is starting to wear off on me.

The ROC is in a different League than the daytona, I would do it.

Couldn't agree more on both points. Size and date are deal breakers for me...ROC Rocks

I have a 7 inch wrist and feel the Daytona too small even compared to a ceramic sub. Go for the AP and never look back.

I took the plunge and traded my SS Daytona for a 25860. For me, the 39mm case is a great fit on my 6.5" wrist. I love having the date and the mostly brushed finish is a little more subtle than the mostly polished Daytona. Looking at the two though, I don't see a major difference in "fit and finish" between the two. Both look pretty damn good to me. The only other difference between wearing the two is the "stiffness" of the AP bracelet but it is very comfortable too.

Congrats on the ROC--looks GREAT on your wrist!

Cannot say enough good things about the ROC. Much prefer it to Daytona.
