rolex incorrect time

I got a pre-owed air-king a couple of months ago and noticed that sometimes the watch is showing incorrect time, so I presume it had stopped for a while.

I checked the power reserve and the watch responded well. it took 46 hours to stop running, so i don't think this is the issue.

So, I don't know what might be wrong. I would appreciate any comments....

Hard to tell from the vague description. When is the time off? On or off your wrist? Day or night? Around same time? How many minutes? Are hands aligned properly? How did you check the power reserve? Manual wind or after a days wear? The more details we get, the more accurate we can be in diagnosing the problem.

You're right Vanessa. I will try to be more specific.

First, I checked the power reserve manually. I wound it by giving around 40 spins on the crown. And as said, the watch responded well.

Before start wearing the watch, I also manually wound the watch giving 40 spins and take it off from my wrist only at night for sleep.

The problem have happened both during the day and night. One day I noticed the watch was running late a couple of hours when I got it on the morning and other day the same thing happened during the day.

I don't know what you mean by hands aligned.....

Thanks,

Possible hands are lose on hand stack or perhaps bent and catching somewhere or simply operator error when checking time.

The hands aligned means that when your hour hand points straight to an hour marker, is your minute hand straight to 12? I also suspect loose hands.

But pad might be right. The hour hand is getting to close to the dial specially around 2 and 3. It might be catching on the dial.

Can you see a scratch on the dial?
That could definitely be the reason why the watch isn't running accurately.

Cannon pinion could be to loose , also if the hands aren`t clearing markers or touching crystal in some spots the hole in main plate for center wheel may be worn. Some main plates have a bushing to replace and others have to be tightened carefully (accordingly) with a staking set punch. If no scratches on dial from hour hand and no scratches on crystal from 2nd hand that`s a good deal. If 2nd hand is getting caught on minute hand is a possibility , Look for that also. ............. 40 winds manually I would cut that in half atleast.

You dont say what model Airking as far as calibre each calibre has it's own idiosyncrasies from what you describe I'm going to go with possible horizontal misalignment of hands possibly rubbing on eachother at certain times of the day causing it to momentarily stop while you're not watching and or what Xlor said canon pinion is loose. When you turn the hands to set do you feel resistance or do they move easily? Another way to test canon pinion tightness set the minute hand to 10 after the hour then flick the top right case lug with your finger nail if the hand moves at all it's a canon pinion problem. Rikki
