Sea Dweller version only produced for 18 months
Saw this in post about 16600. Is below true? The "Swiss" Luminova dial was only produced for 18 months?
Dial / Lume.... 1998 is the accepted cut off date for Tritium and the tritium dial will read '' Swiss-T<25". Super Luminova was then introduced, dials marked "Swiss" appeared for 18 mos then, to the end of production, "Swiss Made" |

Yeah, that's true enough... 1998 LumiNova, then Super-LumiNova from year 2000.
There is no difference in the lume despite one being called "Super"... the name was changed due to company changes: http://wornandwound.com/2013/08/23/s...ce-in-watches/ So only small difference is the "SWISS" (previously designating the use of the highly radio-active Radium) instead of "SWISS MADE"...

Thanks for the information. Coincidentally, I have been stalking 16600's in the last few days and was wondering myself about the "Swiss" designation, having seen it on two circa - 2000 SD's for sale.

It can also mean service dial. I had a Swiss dial fitted to my 1989 Sub 5513 last year.

A serial & i have read a few may be found in the U & P serials as well. Also A serial Swiss dials are not unique to SD, they are seen on others such as subs & explorers etc...

The "SWISS" only dial has no affect on the price what-so-ever, only us WIS-nerds even notice ;-)

As Spacey mentioned, they are all the same patented product, LuminNova/SuperLumiNova. Nemoto & Co. simply changed the name when they built the factory to specifically cater to the Swiss Watch Industry.

and there was a $1 difference, would you consider the dollar or consider which dial you prefer? if you would choose the dial you prefer, is this not a affecting the price?

Sea Dweller version only produced for 18 months
In my limited experience with Rolex I've learned that, over time, even the most minute details gain significance. Only time will tell.
