Is one watch worth two?

I've posted in the past about flipping scenarios for some of the watches in my small collection. I have yet to pull the trigger on anything as I always talk myself out of it, possibly preventing a bad decision. I do like the 4 watches I have currently but have been lusting for a newer ceramic model. Earlier this year I traded one watch for two but now I'm considering doing the opposite. I guess maybe I'm caught up in the "more is better" mindset. What that being said, does it make sense to trade my 16610 Sub and 214270 Explorer I for the new Sea Dweller 4000? I had contemplated trading the Daytona but had been talked out of it for various reasons. I really love the new Sea Dweller but I also love the 2 watches I would have to part with. My wife has cut off my watch fund so adding or uneven trade is not possible. 3 watches (sea dweller, gmt, daytona) or 4 watches (sub, explorer, gmt, daytona)?

I think mix it up.

Don't sell the Daytona.

Stick with the 4 watch program... it's currently well-rounded and the proposed trade would basically be reducing both an Explorer and a Sub into just one watch that closely resembles the Sub.

I like experiencing new things and also think the 116600 is one of the best modern Rolex currently being made so I would make that trade.

The new Sea Dweller 4000 looks a really nice watch, but then so are the two your thinking of trading. I guess you need to consider how much wrist time your current watches get and how much you would miss them. Personally I would stick as I am if I were you.

Agreed.

I think an older sub, new Daytona, and a ceramic gmt would be an awesome mix.

I think the 4 you have give you 4 very different watch experiences. I would keep them over the trade you're considering.

I would keep the four you have. Love the new SD4K but I'd keep what you have and save up for the SD

Umm either keep what you got or sell the two five liners for the SD 4000. The 16610 is a modern classic, my first Rolex, but if you have no attachment to it get something more modern. Unless your GMT is a really nice condition late model Pepsi you can always get another down the road or pick up a modern one in the future.

Easy call if it were me. You already have the multiple timezone issue covered, and with a better watch (GMT vs Explorer II) in my opinion. The SD4k is awesome, and easily replaces the Sub.

I would not do that trade unless you really need a deep water dive watch.

Given your collection I would. Sea Dweller, 16710, Daytona is an awesome three!

Don't flip the 16170... I feel you'd regret that the most and it would give you something to go back to on the off day you don't want to wear the heavier SD or a chrono. Maybe even pick-up an SJ for the 16710 and different bezels as you're not technically buying a new watch!

Just flipped two for the 116613LB and couldn't be happier!

Your SDc, GMT and Daytona option is a perfect combo to me. I would definitely flip those two for one and end up at that scenario and not look back, at all.

I would make the trade - older Submariner and newer Explorer II, but for the DSSD original.

Do not trade your Daytona

Yup, QED. Always good to get a ceramic in the stable and you still have two lovely pieces so best of all worlds... until you trade for gold of course...

How can you not be happy with 4 watch combo (sub, explorer, gmt, daytona)? That's an envious line-up!

Hmm tough one as you have a great line up already. I think the question is are you going to get the bang for your buck by losing two watches and gaining one-albeit a super nice one?

I don't think so unless you're talking about a precious metal. Two stainless for one stainless? Ceramic sheramic. Nope.

Stick to the 4. Im at 4 now and feel like its the perfect number as you don't get bored of any one watch easy. Besides 3 is a crowd and 4 is a party :).

I'd personally go for the 3, don't like the Exp I much, and yes the ceramic models are awesome IMO, the clasps are just perfect on the Sub, you can get a perfect fit all the time by adjusting a little the clasp, the old "tuna can" clasps were the only thing stopping me from buying a Rolex before, when they changed them I bought the sub, so guess same thing on the SD for the clasp I guess you have a perfect fit, so yes do the trade
