116610LN? 16610LV? Help?
Struggling....I have been doing so much reading over the past few weeks on the forum and elsewhere. I originally was set on a GMT II BLNR but the PCL's have been troubling me and I know you can get them brushed but that seems off to me a little.
The Submariner is such a classic, albeit somewhat "common" but as a younger man I can distinctly remember seeing the 16610LV for the first time and absolutely loved it. The green and black just look right with the brushed band. I have been eyeing one from DAVIDSW for the better part of a week now. But some of the features of the 116610LN seem awful appealing as well, the quick adjust band and the ceramic black seems classy yet subtle. Part of me worries the green would look too...garish? Showy? Stand out too much? But I do really dig those colors and it being anniversary and a fond memory seem to feel right for my first Rolex. In the end I would prefer the GMT functionality, but my travel is really East and West coast so keeping track of time is not much of a chore, and the Sub with it's brushed links and rugged good looks somehow seems fitting for my first.... What a wonderful struggle to have.....any words of wisdom as I flail about... |

Between the 116610 LN and 16610 LV, I would choose the LN as I am love the upgrades to the bezel, bracelet and clasp. Also, the LN in my opinion, would serve as a better all around watch.
Based on your requirements, maybe purchasing a GMT Master II 16710 would be a better choice over the Subs. This way, you have the GMT function and also the brushed bracelet. A win-win in my books.

Have you had a look at the 116610LV ? I've owned a 16610LV in 2006, loved the maxi dial but it didn't last long and I flipped it for a Daytona. I've also owned a 116610LN for the last 4 years, up until a couple of weeks ago when I sold it and replace it with a 116610LV. At first I thought the green dial & green bezel would be too much, but most of the time the dial looks very dark green / almost black were as the bezel always looks green. I'm very happy with it and will hopefully keep it for some time !!!

Welcome. You're going to hear a lot of votes for the 116610LV as it's been a hot seller and rightfully so. Personally, I love my 16610. I've never had an issue with fit. I love the fact that you'll be able to change bezel insert out from green to black and back again with ease and still have the maxi dial and hands. Plus, it was a limited production model and is discontinued. If I were you, I'd be leaning towards the 16610LV.
Best of luck with your decision!

I have seen the 116610LV and it just seems like a lot of green. It's pretty, but seems bright to me in the pictures though I must admit, have not seen one in person. Something about the green bezel with black face really is appealing to me....but so with the 116610LN....

Well it's a trade off...you obviously like the looks of the LV (which is understandable), but are drawn towards the upgrades the ceramic sub offers...and the LVc is just too much green...agree with you there.
I think your best bet is get the 116610LN. You can't go wrong with this one. A classic and an icon for a reason. Down the road add a GMT and maybe a LV...now you've got a great collection...but it all starts with the LN. |

LN is my vote, I honestly think it's about as perfect as a watch can get... as Wesley Snipes says, "Always bet on black"

As I've said several times: in my honest opinion, I feel that the 16610LV is what I consider the only collectible modern Rolex reference.
You cannot go wrong with whatever you decide and whatever watch you love. Worth mentioning to you is in the last year or so, I have had more comments and compliments on my 16610LV sub than all the other six Rolex watches I have worn on rotation. Good luck. |

For a daily driver, the 6-digit gets the nod IMO.

Hands down the 116610 LN, I just got one myself. I love the glide lock and the upgrades. I came from owning a 16610

It's all personal preference... however with the 16610LV you can also get a black bezel and easily swap between the green and black bezels to match your mood/attire....

I got rid of the 16610 for a 116610LN. I was really impressed with the watch. Especially the Glidelock. This might be a small detail but I also like the AR coating on the cyclops. I got used to it real quick. However, I still had my eye on the LV. So what to do? Simple. I got rid of the 116610LN for the 16610LV. I was one happy guy. I kept the green insert on the watch. I needed an extra link in the bracelet to get a proper fit. After getting used to the AR cyclops, the date looked cloudy to me I grew tired of green every day also. After five months, off it went. Back to a 116610LN. I really do like the LV. For me it would work in rotation with a few others. Maybe if I owned it before owning a newer model I would still have it. Either way you can't go wrong. Both are great watches. This is just my experience. YMMV.

I would go first with your original option.... BLNR... No wonder... LOL.
But with your description, I pretty much saw myself at the moment I was deciding between the BLNR and the Sub C LV. Took me actually quite a while to make up my mind. They are both awsome. LN IS an icon but too "common" for my taste. I ended up going for the GMT BLNR because I'm pilot (even though, I don't wear it on duty lol) and because it is/was a bit of a novelty and plus, I have a particular love for the GMT bezel. I was also very scared with the PCL's and this was the biggest reason that almost made me go for the LV (Not only because of this, since I really love the LV and it will be without a single doubt, my next Rolex). My point is: the PCL's were a very great surprise for me. I've really learned to enjoy it !! If you are careful enough the scratches will be minimal throughout the time and trust me, it looks VERY nice and elegant. Before owning the BLNR, I always had plans to get the SUB bracelets along with BLNR. After 1 or 2 days owning and wearing as it is, the idea of changing bracelets simply vanished from my mind. So, given my story, between the LN and LV, I'd go LV for sure !!!

BLNR if you like the GMT function. The PCL's are great. Try them on before you buy and you will know which one to choose.

I echo what 'fishingbear' said above - my 16610LV gets more admiration than my Exp I & II, Pepsi or 14060m put together. It's my favourite of the bunch a great watch.
