Rolex 14060 Submariner
Why do Rolex 14060 submariner models have a case with holes instead of like the other sport models that are newer with no holes cases?

The 14060 was never upgraded with the solid end-links, so it remained as it always had been, as opposed to, say, the 114270 that transitioned to the solid end-links.
That's a very fundamental explanation and there may be other factors.

And I'm guessing it's cheaper to keep the old proven manufacturing processes in place than it is to update. I, for one, love the lug holes.

Get a 114060 if you don't like the through holes. Then all you need to worry about is being able to lift your arm.
