If it really took a year to make a Rolex, and they make a million watches a year, that would mean there are a million partially finished Rolexes on the "assembly line" at any given time.

(I put "assembly line" in quotes because I realize there's no assembly line like you'd find in a car factory, but the fact remains that there'd have to be a million Rolexes in various states of completion in the queue at any given time for that claim to be true.)

Most cheap and even middle tier quartz watches are not that accurate. A cheap one will deviate a couple of minutes a month. Even the Seiko radio-adjusted one will deviate well over 30 seconds a month if not allowed to re-sync regularly with the source.

I've had many Rolex and Omega watches, properly regulated to less than 1 sec/day. Some of them I've timed them with a proper source to less than 15 seconds per month.

If you compare a Rolex to a thermo-adjusted super-quartz, yes, those will be more accurate at about 2 seconds per year, but not a cheap quartz watch.

Most all run-of-the-mill Quartz wristwatches will keep accurate time within + - 15 seconds a month or less that's a fact and not a Myth.Regarding the Rolex Oyster quartz the annual accuracy is within + - 60 seconds a year (Rolex has never stated an official accuracy specification but the average is + - 2 to 5 seconds a month and not year.)and that's a fact.But agree many mechanical movements can be regulated to within 15 seconds a month,even some from China like the Chinese Seagull range take the ST19 manual wind chronograph movement which cost less than $60.With careful regulation can run consistently well inside the COSC spec and that's a fact because I have done it and for a $60 movement it truly amazes me with its consistency and accuracy.

But for Quartz accuracy then afraid its the Japanese brands like Citizen or the Grand Seiko Japanese quartz model these were very very accurate quartz model but very expensive even then almost Rolex price some were more.


Note 1: Seiko re-issued a limited edition of the "Astron" in 2000 that used a special version of the 9F movement that was rated to ± 2 seconds per year after adjustment.
Now most certainly the Japanese movements accuracy was far better than the Rolex Quartz movement
Note 2: The 9F movement is reportedly designed to run fifty years before it even needs servicing.
Note 3: Other Grand Seiko quartz models use the 8J movement. Even less is known about this movement out side Japan, but again after adjustment could easily match less than 5 seconds a year.

Well it most certainly makes a change from can I wear my Rolex doing this or that, is it safe to wear in this or that country etc.I sometime wonder why some buy Rolex watches if they cause so much stress to there owners, perhaps buy just to wear the name.

I have a friend who believed this myth. I showed him a PP I had with my Rolex collection and he just looked at me and said "wtf is that?" I said "its a PP". He said "Looks like a watch you'd buy at a Walmart"
