Newbie here-Service question-differing estimates

Hi All,

I have been reading the page for a while but this is my first post. I recently brought my 2002 16710 into RSC in Beverly Hills. The first estimate stated I would need to replace the crown. The second said the crown is fine but they would have to refinish the bracelet, which would make the middle links a bit shinier, sort of like the new bracelt on the GMT2C. What gives? Why would one estimate detail a replacement and another , not?

You got two different estimates at the same time..

Typically an RSC will never tell you that you must refinish the bracelet since it is optional and done at no charge - also not sure why that would make the middle links shinier.. it never has on any of my GMTs.

Crowns and tubes are replaced to ensure waterproofness - it's just an estimate, you can decline this.

Thanks, Tools! Big fan!

No, I got the first estimate when I brought the watch in to replace the bezel insert. They told me I needed service and the crown replaced. I said thanks and left to think about it. When I brought it in to do the service a few days later, the technician said I don't need the replacement crown but they would do the service and polish the bracelet and the satin finish on the middle links would look shiny. They said this is what is required to bring it back to original? I agree it's a bit strange but let's see how it looks.
