No pics, but I hope everyone has tried the 2010 Mas La Plana. Best vintage since 1996 from them. Fantastic stuff.

Today I opened a bottle of Abstract '13 (WS92) and as I was expecting a full -yet young- red, I decanted for an hour. First impressions, bottle is quite heavy and, despite the odd label, pushes your mind towards a full bodied red. The label does not give you any information on grapes, tastes or aromas, other than well known Orin Swift Cellars.
Color is intense, and aromas, as you swirl reveal a lot of peppery/dark berry hints. On palate, it is an unusual blend. Aromas and colors suggest a cab-like wine, yet it is very drinkable with mild tannins. I paired with cheese, salumi and bacon-mint pasta, it did ok without being outstanding. My 2 cents: if you want to give a 'wine connoisseur' option in color and aromas, yet a very easy going red, this is it. If you are looking for flavor so that match the thick, rich aromas and colors....well , this will not do it. I will leave some for tomorrow and see how it changes.... |

Drank this last night. An excellent champagne. Red berries and flowers with tiny bubbles in this one. I always have a few of these on hand.

OK, I like it.
![]() ![]() Mellow. Mild. Subdued. Subtle. OUTSTANDING! The Malbec was, comparatively, bold and powerful and wonderful in its own way. ![]() Thank you for your advice on this one, Gerardo! ![]()

Simply...The Wine Thread
Got into this one Saturday night at my fathers 65th birthday party. They are mostly white wine drinkers and left this all to me!! Picked it up as I am generally a big fan of anything from Alexander Valley. The first we tried was the Rodney Strong Alexander's Crown. At $60 a bottle going rate for the Rodney Strong this $22 bottle is a great alternative. And it pairs very well with White Castle sliders!!

Frei Brothers is a great reasonable every evening wine. 2012 reserve is good. Also good enough to bring to a dinner party as a gift. Can't beat it at <25 U.S. gulp it down as it finishes weak though. Starts out very nice
Can't say this enough, buy all the 2012 you can of most of the decent wineries in Napa. Then jump all over the 2013 next as it surely might surpass the 2012, which was amazing Happy drinking ![]() I have my winter wines coming in next week, very excited. Except Hundred Acre won't be coming until Spring 2016 ![]()

Good to hear it -- lots of good wine in Washington, though I don't know how much of it gets distributed out of state. We're lucky to live really close to Woodinville, where many of the Walla Walla, Yakima, and Red Mountain wineries have tasting rooms.
Last night we had a bottle of 2009 Chimney Rock cabernet from our recent trip to Napa. Very tasty. |
