I also have just read your story for the first time. Wow - you showed a super human amount of resilience and persistence to survive!

Please enjoy your vintage GMT Pepsi in good health. An amazing watch to commemorate an even more special event. Glad you're here to tell the tale.

Well, another year has passed, and I'm still here to celebrate!

I'm heading over to Austin Texas this weekend to check out the new surf park designed by Wavegarden.

With a little luck, I will be the oldest surfer to successfully get tubed on the high end "reef waves"...

I'll post pics if I live to tell the tale!

Life is good. Be safe.

What a story, congrats on your watch and more importantly for surviving a very challenging situation. As a surfer in much colder waters, I will consider your story when I go out in certain conditions. Enjoy the watch and wear it more than just special occasions!

I think you might owe the bird a new timepiece

Well you're not gonna believe this, but today I had another "interesting" day at the beach!

Left the house about 9:30 AM headed for Surfside with the backup board on the roof rack (the original is still out in the Gulf somewhere). Just north of Angelton on 288 we go under a large overpass. Out of nowhere, a pidgeon flies into the windshield right in front of Geneva. Since we're doing about 55 MPH, it makes a terrible WHAM and disappears over the roof. You should have seen the look on his face....

I figured that puppy was long gone and worried more about my wife getting her heart started again. I used to fly, and bird strikes are scary stuff. Just ask Capt. Sullenberger.

Anyway, we continued for the last 20 miles of the trip to the beach and pull into the parking lot by the jetty. I hopped out and went to see how bad a mess I needed to clean up before I could head out into the lineup.

Unbelievably, that bird was standing on the roof under the surfboard just looking around!!! I got close enough to see how many fractures he suffered from the impact but he jumped into the air and flew off !! I'm not talking about 30 feet then a crash landing; he circled the closest house twice, then headed back home to Angelton !!

Must be something in the water around here.....

Here are some pics of the roof rack; I think he must have collided with the foam on the cross bar, then squeezed under it for the rest of the trip. I've decided to name him "Rocky" because he's tough as rocks !! One lucky bird indeed !!

Oh, my. Impressive. Inspiring. Even after rereading your original post I'm not sure what's mightier -- your physical or inner strength. Very happy you lived to tell the tale -- and what a kick to have that watch . . . and with that inscription. You should drop Tom Selleck a note . . .

Not quite daily yet, but a lot more often than before...it's such a cool watch, I really enjoy that I am the guy that gets to take care of it for the next few years!

When I really feel frisky, then I switch it over to a Coke or Black bezel!

Hey Guys:

Another year has passed and I'm still here! Not only that, I still surf as often as there are good conditions...

Hurricane Nate gave us some clean 3-5 footers south of the jetty...

Just remember that a bad day at the beach is better than a good day at work, especially if you have a Pepsi GMT on the wrist!

PS CBS saw fit to take down the video interview; I'm guessing that Harry Smith was tired of saying the same things, over and over...
