Delicious. One of the things I love about OR Pinots is the acidity that can cut through fatty foods like steak - and in this case gravy and garlic mashed potatoes. It was a great pairing.

New Year's Day Wines, 2094 Chateau Lascombes and a 2013 Hanzell Sebella. Both are really delicious.

Ferrari-Carano Merlot 2012~ Merlot from Sonoma County, California
![]() Winemaker's Notes Select lots of grapes are chosen from our vineyards in Sonoma County to create this beautifully-balanced and full-bodied Ferrari-Carano Merlot. This is a velvety wine with a complex nose of fresh-picked blackberries, black tea, cedar, red cherry and licorice. A fleshy and generous mouthfeel is followed by notes of bittersweet cinnamon, mocha and tobacco. This wine has full, generous tannins that coat the palate, impressive length and lasting acidity.

Opened this little gem last night - a '13 Venge Sangiovese --- from a great vineyard that makes some PHENOMENAL wines that we really enjoy --
Kirk Venge is an AMAZING wine maker. This is one that you can open any day of the week -- at ~$30ish / bottle it has great concentration, just enough boldness and great fruit (not to be a cab)...I definitely recommend trying. It packs a GREAT value to its structure, flavor profile for being a young wine. Cheers!!! ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I never realized the amount of sediment that was in some wines. and the sound it makes is pretty cool.

One of my favorite Cabs, Awesome!
![]() 2012 PlumpJack Estate Cabernet Sauvignon RATING: (94-96) points PRODUCER: PlumpJack FROM: Oakville Napa, North Coast, California, USA VARIETY: Cabernet Sauvignon DRINK: 2013 - 2033 ESTIMATED COST: $98 - $120 The saturated, dense, inky/purple-colored 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate reveals spectacularly sweet fruit (sucrosity) and purity as well as a fullbodied mouthfeel, and a lightness and ethereal complexity that are not the least bit heavy. This stunning 2012 should age effortlessly for 15-20+ years. This enviable estate on the Oakville Corridor, sandwiched between Rudd Estate and Screaming Eagle, and overlooked by Dalla Valle and a handful of other blue bloods is the former Villa Mt. Eden estate made famous by Nils Venge in the 1970s. The great wines of Villa Mt. Eden are well represented by what Plumpjack has accomplished since they took over this estate. There are two cuvees, the basic Cabernet Sauvignon and a Reserve offering. -Robert Parker Wine Maker's Notes: The long, mild growing season allowed for a long hang time with even ripening and outstanding flavor development and tannin maturity. The flavors coming out of our Estate vineyard in Oakville were absolutely amazing and these flavors have persisted throughout fermentation and aging. The fruit on the nose is intense and lively with aromas of black cherry and raspberry followed by iron, crushed granite, and sage, all laced with mocha and vanilla. This wine has a rich and concentrated palate with great structure and an enduring finish.

Gave the Mrs a blind taste test. She knew which was prisoner but called it basically even. Going back for a couple cases tomorrow. Thanks for the recommendation Leon!

![]() 2012 Duckhorn Vineyards Napa Valley Merlot Wine Spectator 90 | Wine Enthusiast 91 Not sure if I have posted this one before... Decent Merlot in the $24 - $54 bottle range. Perhaps it would be better with some age. Production Notes Varietal Content 88% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Petit Verdot, 2% Cabernet Franc, 1% Malbec Cooperage 100% French Oak Château-style Barrels (60 Gallons) Barrel Aging: 16 Months Age of Barrels: 25% new, 75% second vintage Winemaker Notes With its temperate weather and lengthy hang time, the 2012 growing season was ideal for our style of Merlot, yielding a wine that combines exceptional structure and depth with velvety tannins and alluring fruit. From its aromas of Santa Rosa plum, crème de cassis, violet and Herbes de Provence to its enticing flavors of olallieberry, sticky toffee and vanilla bean, this is a complex and compelling expression of Napa Valley Merlot. Production The 2012 growing season offered near-perfect growing conditions. Though budbreak was late due to heavy spring rains, warm weather during bloom allowed the vines to set a large crop. Increased yields were the result of more berries, not larger berries. This translated into even higher quality in the winery, as the skin-to-juice ratio remained ideal. Slightly cooler-than-average post-veraison weather and a lack of any heat events allowed for greatly extended hang time. Harvest was 2-3 weeks later than average, and the grapes arrived at the winery in pristine condition. - See more at: http://www.duckhorn.com/product/2012....oRr3nfqA.dpuf
