Questions about the Royal Oak

I've been considering purchasing a new RO 15400 41mm the last few days. I have a few questions for those that have purchased one before.

1. Can the purchase price be negotiated? The AD I visited didn't seem like they would negotiate. Asking price is $17,800 dlrs.

2. Black or White/silver dial? I really like the white dial but I'm concern that wearing it with jeans and t-shirt will look awkward. Is viewing the hands difficult on the white/silverish dial?

3. I was also looking the VC overseas (white dial time and date only) is that comparable to the RO?

I plan to wear it frequently.

I never buy a watch that doesn't offer any discount and bye bye any AD that refuse to negotiate.
I will go with black dial that fit mostly every style you can match with.
For VC oversea. They just announces entirely new look in and out of this line. Have you see it in SIHH 2016.?

I was just looking at the new VC overseas, I dont care for the look of the dial, prefer the old (current) style. I'm leaning towards the RO.

Whats a good % to start working with?

Typically, new customer 15% to 17%. Good relationship then 20% to 23% possible 25%.

If it's the AD in SF don't waste your time. Email David and be done.

If you can't get at least 10% off research trusted sellers here.

Accept no less than 25% off and I prefer the black dial. The 15400 is an exceptional value but needs to be offered at discount as they are sitting in nearly every AP dealers case in plentiful supply.

I meant to say that the AD I visited was the one in Menlo Park on the Rosewood hotel.

Is David an AD somewhere in the bay area?

This...

Also --- I would keep in mind that while many ADs give discounts...I wouldn't walk in to one (especially, if I had no prior relationship or rapport with) and assume that they will discount anything.

Just my .02

David is a seller here and he would have no problem getting you a 15400 brand new for a great price. I have done several deals with him and thanh do (takuya) as well.

If you can't get your AD to come within 500-1000 of their pricing. I would seriously consider going through one of them

A 15400 BNIB via grey dealer should be around $13k. Also for reference, a minty/used Jumbo averages around $18-19k - only a few up from 15400 retail.

I doubt you can negotiate a price close to that at an AD.

Much better value via a trusted seller IMO.

I sent you a PM. I do not like the newer VC model. I prefer the AP. I own a VC overseas chrono and an AP ROO chrono. I am considering selling the former, and really don't like the new announced model. In terms of the dial and blue jeans-- I do not think the white would be problematic at all and I think the dial is very readable. I think the dial color is very much a matter of personal preference.

1. Yes. Some may offer a discount, however others may need to be prodded. As a general rule, if they're not offering a discount upfront, this may not be the person you want to make a long-term relationship with.

2. I went with the black dial for myself as it allows a great amount of flexibility with what you can wear it with (in my opinion). I use this as my daily wearer, but the white dial is quite stunning.

3. I was considering the same VC (that dial is gorgeous), but the closed case on the back was a minus for the VC. And the overall aesthetic of the 15400 was without compare in my book. When I put both on my wrist, it was obvious who the winner was.

Obviously, when looking at this caliber of watch, you can't go wrong with any decision. Good luck deciding!

I agree with what has been said in that you ought to do better in terms of price, and David, Thanh, and other trusted sellers here are a great way to go. I think dark dials are more versatile but I love both. So when I had to chose, I went with a very dark blue ROC and a silver VC Overseas chronograph (so I got both brands and both colors). There are probably two real advantages to the VC. Looking at pre-owned prices, the VC would be at least $3000ish lower in price. And since it will be a daily wearer, if you'll be around water, the 150m WR rating of the VC is much more versatile than the 50m of the AP.

What I meant was that a Jumbo with no discount would be a better deal.

a "sporty" dress watch on my book, like the Nautilus, and a few others, in AP the real sport watches is the ROO line

He won't but better add a few K on top of 15400 retail and get it

I got 18% off and shipped from a well known NYC AD. Who were great to deal with. I probably could have gotten 20% with some more shopping. The salesman and the owner were great people and I really enjoyed the purchase.

BTW. I myself do not consider a 15400 to be a "jeans/shorts and t-shirt" watch I'll wear it with jeans and a collared shirt and a sweater, but never any more casual then that. That's what my Sub and my Pam are for.

The AP in my mind very much falls on the dressy side of the spectrum.

I wouldn't buy an 15400 from an AD. You can get them never worn easily for 13.5k. Used for 11.5K on the forums. Both are great dial choices. Its a very casual watch so wearing it with jeans and t-shirt is totally acceptable. I would prefer it as you would want to draw more attention to that beautiful watch.

Took time but was able to get my AD to come down on my 15400 RG.

I went with the silver dial and I love it. Lets me wear it with any type of dress and colors.

My AD offered both AP and VC and when looking at both in person, only took me a few seconds to select the AP!

It's part of the reason I let mine go. I often wear casual button ups and jeans and it didn't always look right.

I would shoot for at least 20% off. DavidSW can probably get you a brand new one with valid warranty. He can pretty much locate any watch for you
