Did Basel shake up your plans this year?

Have you been saving for that one special watch or two for this year? Were you content with your collection? Didn't plan on flipping? Did Basel shake things up for you? With all the excitement over the DaytonaC and other releases I'm sure you have something to say!

As for myself, I've added a 114270 exp1 and a Tudor Ranger thus far. I was thinking by end of this year perhaps I'll reacquire a blnr or pick up a pre-loved black 216570 or North Flag.

Well now I'd be thrilled to add a black DaytonaC or corrected 214270 ahead of those previously mentioned. I wasn't considering flipping my blue Pelagos or Breitling Nav01, but they might have to go bye bye as they lost rotation time.

This year I wanted to add a new polar Explorer II to my collection. Something with a white dial. Now I want the new Daytona-C with the white dial, but I'll get it next year.

I really like this new white dial Daytona! It has a mix of both old and new and reminds me of the steel classic 6240 with black bezel and the 16520 with the Zenith based movement and black contrasting sub-dial colors. But the new Daytona has some great improvements I really like. The solid bracelet, a movement that has proven itself for the last 15+ years and an easier to read 'scratch proof' bezel makes the new Daytona a watch I want.

No, because although the Daytona C (Daytamic?) is an attractive watch, the waiting list will be too long and the price will be too high and for me, I a) cannot be bothered to wait and b) will not pay a premium over MRSP.

A combination of SIHH and Baselworld changed my plans - I was planning to get the previously announced Overseas Chrono, but was disappointed with the design when it was finally revealed at SIHH. On the other hand the new Daytona looks great so I am considering to get this instead.

I was seriously thinking about replacing my BLNR that I flipped a couple of years ago. Now I am on the list at my AD for the white dial DaytonaC.

The new Daytona-C and the updated Explorer will be on the list. I will also give a look to the Tudor Black Bay Bronze. I will probably be able to get my hands on the Explorer and the Tudor. The Daytona, at some point but probably not this year. The Daytona will be a good carry over watch.

Yup... Before Basel I had made the decision to get out of Rolex completely and trade my GMT IIc + an IWC for a player to be named later... Still anticipating the player to be named later in two weeks, but suddenly and unexpectedly found myself on the "top 5" list for a new white Daytona c.

Strange, this affliction (he says in a Yoda voice)

Kind of I guess, my next Rolex purchase is going to be an Explorer but that was put on hold when I diverted those watch funds to upgrade the size of my fiancé's engagement ring, figured I can obtain the Explorer any time but the ring is a one time thing. Now that the slight changes have been made to the Explorer I'm delighted that I'll be picking up the newer version. So I'll end up with the newer one at some point, she gets a larger diamond and all is good. It wasn't because of Baselworld but I'm happy that's how things worked out.

I waited for Basel, and felt my $ would be best spent on existing inventory...

No. I knew I was working towards a BLRO no matter what new wonders were released. (A platinum GMTc would be interesting though).

The releases this year were great and I could see having a Daytona C and the new Explorer in my stable one day. However, the Explorer will be easily accessible within a year or two from its actual release so I will not get in a hurry on it. As far as the Daytona C, there is no choice but to wait on it or pay a crazy premium and still have to wait. My plans are still to procure the soon to be discontinued Daytona hopefully for a great price with the release of the Daytona C within the next year.

Not really.... I have been considering my first gold piece a DD40 and was hoping for a more colorful dial combo.

I do want to see the bronze Tudor though!
