What are your thoughts about the new Daytona? White or black dial?

I like it and I'm on the list but to me the bezel is too thick. I'd have to say like not love. It is however a significant improvement over the 116520.

I think it is a major mistake to judge a watches appearance from a large photo and an even bigger mistake to base a purchasing decision on a blown up pic.

What looks good or bad on your computer screen can look totally different when it is on your wrist. That applies to colours as well as layout and design.

I was, for 12 years, in charge of buying postage stamps from specialist printers for the British Royal Mail and every day I saw large pictures of stamps that looked totally different to the little stamps that you stick on envelopes. No decisions were ever taken on the final design until a correct size mock up was made.

Incidently, every stamp design had to be personally approved by the Queen and she always insisted on viewing an actual size stamp. She would never accept a larger picture in a million years. So if nothing else, learn from her.

Well put, Mick. Lately I've been smitten with a TT Daytona/steel grey dial, seen only in pictures and the Rolex website. Finally tried one on the other day at a dealer, it was ok but didn't get me as revved up as I had thought. Yes, seeing it in person is the true test.
That said, they are both really sharp pieces.

Couldn't agree more, Mick. And interesting story, too.

From the pics, the white has my attention...but I will need to see it in the flesh to make a purchasing decision.

Cause one's got to go if I pick it up and I'm not making that decision lightly as I'm really happy with what I've got now.

The Black dial is really growing on means gives me an excuse to keep my white dial 116520. It will come down to the legibility of the subdials for me.

Pretty much the same here.

Plus, for some reason the white seems off to me...maybe it's just the pics. While I am 100% on the side of wanting a ceramic bezel on the Daytona, the black really hit home for me and the white leaves something to be desired. I prefer my current SS white at the moment over the ceramic white.

I seem to be lucky in that I want the (maybe) less desirable version in black. Hopefully means a faster delivery to my wrist. Like many here, I am "#1" on my ADs list

Have to caveat: as Mick points out above, it can all go out the window once I see it in person. Hated the platona when released (WTF is up with that brown???) but saw it in person and it's been a hard battle to not liquidate a few others to fund one.

Pictures never do a watch justice.

You have to see them up close and especially on the wrist to truly appreciate them.

Of course, pictures help in the absence of a personal inspection, but pictures never tell the true story.

This will be much copied. Expect to see many SS Daytonas retrofitted with aftermarket black "ceramic" (plastic) bezels and aftermarket dials with black rings.

I think it's interesting you say this and, from experience, I have to agree with it.

I always like the look of the black faced SS Daytona and the older Sea Dwellers in photos, but when I see them in the metal I'm not so keen! Things can certainly look different in a photo.

Agree with Mick's sentiments. I've saved untold amounts of money by being underwhelmed by watches in person that I "had to have" after seeing photos.
