Mixed Precious Metal and SS collection

So I think most of us are well aware of Dr Tom's and Mike's views on going precious metal (PM) and not looking back once moving on from steel.

(cue some enabling pictures from Dr Tom... )

How about the rest of you? I've held back on PM Rolex for many years, but the creep is there...between the smurf, BLRO and platinum Daytona, there has been a pull I haven't felt before. And to make it worse, I've been actively trying them on when I get the chance.

But I do love my SS watches, and would hope not to lose interest in them if I get sucked down that PM path. I do like variety and its much easier (for me anyway) to have a variety of SS than gold/platinum.

Thoughts?

I have WG (116619 and 116519) and I have many SS Rolex watches. I love and wear both, but I wear my SS models probably 90% of the time. There is room for both in every collection IMHO.

They co exist well together in a collection. In fact, my blnr gets more wrist time as a daily then my Lvc and smurf.

Flipped my TT Sub for a 116619LB. Flipped my GMT BLNR and a TT Daytona for a 116719BLRO.

The only SS left in the collection is my YM.

I went from 4 watches to 3 and it makes choosing what to wear a little easier.

Sounds like you got the itch. Scratch it.

I have no problem at all wearing the YM.

I just jumped into PM with a WG DD. I don't ever see getting rid of my SS 5-digits, but the PM is on a whole different level - that's for sure.

I did think about how many SS watches I could get for the price of the DD, but I just have to put that out of my head. I bought the watch that I wanted. The one that kept me up. The one I couldn't get out of my head.

Get what you love - whatever that is.

You only live once.

While I may prefer PM, I still find time to wear SS (probably 5% of the time) when PM is foolhardy.

Have both, enjoy both. I have to say, at the moment my steel watches tend to be vintage however. I have yet to fall back in love with modern steel Rolex (or Patek for that matter).

The 116619 and the 116718 have been two of my favorite all times watches (although I don't own either at the moment). I've contemplated a platinum Daytona as the dial and bezel are quite alluring.

I'm actually contemplating a 116655 at the moment! rolf...

I have and love both but SS see the majority of wrist time.
Definitely a special feel with the weight of PM though.

You're missing the platona

I had an itch for a PM Rolex. Had the WG Sub and I loved the look and heft of it. It's also very versatile and under the radar. I say scratch the itch!

For my sins I have followed my TRF mentor, Midas Mike, and I was exclusively PM last year but this year I have bought an SS and find that I really want 1/2 back in my collection.

Once you go PM, there is no turning back! Just kidding!!

I think you can enjoy both SS and PM without making judgements about one vs the other.

I've got a serious debate going on in my head - my love for platinum vs my gripes with the Daytona. My PM lust will probably win out.

I get it. While I'll always choose PM if it's available, some models only come in SS. So you'll see me wear the occasional SS model also.

Beautiful pics, Mike and Dr. Tom.

For my collection, I'm envisioning moving toward 2-3 steel pieces and a couple of PM's.

I think SS and WG make great companions in the same collection. I split my wrist time about 50/50, but it tends to be seasonal. In the spring/summer (short sleeves) I wear PM most of the time and in the fall/winter (when my watch will be covered by sleeves and jackets) I tend to wear SS.

I have 3 PM but 2 are vintage and small case size and one is a cartier. Rolex SS is good for me...for now.

I wear mine fairly equally....PM getting 65-70% wrist time. My vintage gets worn mostly under dress/long sleeves(not worn often) The next two I acquire this year will be SS. I love them all, but PM is exquisite!

If/when I make the move to a PM Rolex my SS version(s) will be gifted to my son.

I enjoy both SS watches and PMs. I would say I wear my gold watches about 70% of the time in the warmer months, and 30% in the winter. I do love my gold with a tan! Platinum shines nicely too....

Plenty of room for both. Rolex caters to many customers and many needs. I prefer PM because I tend to buy dressier Rolexes. I tend to buy SS Omegas as my 'tool' watches.

I go back and forth all the time.
Got all the bases covered: SS/YG/RG/WG/PT

I love PM, but more importantly I love the watch first.
The Hulk gets as much love from me as the Smurf.
My SS Daytona gets waaaay more love than my RG....PT is different story.
They don't make a PM Seadweller, and there are time when I want a black diver on.

I have to say that the BLRO, Smurf, and the Platona are all very beautiful pieces....but when I step into that arena...it'll be the Smurf that gets my attention!!!.
