Rolex 1803 (18K YG) - Blackening HELP
Hi,
I just wanted to ask why this is happening to my day date as well as ways on how to get rid of the blackening? I've brought it to the RSC for verification & they have verified that it is original. Thanks! |

It's just tarnish, some like the colour change in vintage gold. Anyway it polishes right off very easily with a light hand polish if you don't like it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Lack of maintenance.

Alright, thanks! What maintenance can be done to prevent this? And would light polishing be recommended? Thank you!

IMHO it just adds character to an already gorgeous watch. I wouldn't touch it if the watch were mine.

1803? Looks like a 18038.

Perhaps wear it more often

Pure gold doesn't tarnish, of course. This is the other metals in the 18K gold alloy which are simply tarnishing, as with silver, which is even worse and much quicker. It will polish off, but some prize it!

You can try a product named Cape Cod Cloth and be careful how you use it. The watch case has two finishing features - one is polished and the other is brushed along the top of the lugs. Keep away from the brushed sections with the cloth. If the top of the lugs need tarnish removal, I'd suggest soaking a q-tip with some of the CCC solution from a fresh cloth and drawing it lightly in the same direction as the existing brushed grain. This is the least invasive surface treatment. The other option is to have RSC do the work next time it's due for a service. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It's probably been sitting for a long time. Maybe change the drawer it's in, since it's a reaction to something in it's environment.
