5980/1AR Blue Dial - Some Random Thoughts & Question

I saw a 5980/1AR the other day for the first time.
Wow that blue is a bluer and more vibrant blue than the 5711 blue IMO.

Seems the /1AR doesn't get a lot of love in many polls I have looked at, at least compared to other Nautiluses.
And I am surprised the /1AR blue dial isn't talked about more (I hear so many praises about the 5711 blue).

Am I crazy for saying that /1AR dial is one of the best dials and most beautiful blue hues on a watch face I have ever seen? Up there with Platona Ice Blue IMO.
The 5711 blue/grey kinda paled in comparison in my eyes, as I looked at the two next to each other in the same light side by side.
I also loved the way the watch looked overall and I am not usually into TTs (accept for the Rolex Bluesy).

Q: I have never seen a 5980/1A but does it have this same color blue?
Just curious, because this is starting to become a watch I want.
Photos online just can't seem to do these Nautilus dials justice which is why I ask about the /1A blue.

I want a Nautilus (some iteration of it) at some point, thinking 5712, but man that dial has me thinking...

Why isn't there more love for the 5980/1AR?

And it seems right now the 5980/1AR is right at the same price as the 5980/1A in used market. Which also puzzles me...

I have seen the blue dial on the 5980/1AR and it is the nicest blue dial on any of the Nautilus watches I have seen. Someone mentioned the 5711/1P, which was a limited watch, had a similar blue dial.

Well I imagine its not popular simply because its two toned. I would love to see that blue in different models.

I agree the 1AR is absolutely beautiful with a killer dial. It's also one of the few two tone watches I really like.

I thought the 5711P had a deep, vibrant but different blue - however have never seen the P so can't say for certain.

I definitely agree.
Judging by picture of the 5711P, it does seem like a similar blue to this.
But I have never a platinum.

Me too, this blue is just too beautiful to retire. How about a 5711, 5712 or 5990 with this blue?

I am curious about this too, if there are any 5711P owners that have seen both.

Also, I would still like to know if the 5980/1A uses this blue?

The TT 5980 has a different dial from the steel version.... The TT blue is absolutely stunning and vibrant!
Personally, I love this TT 5980.... I just don't have th cash to buy it!

Thanks Kevin, that is what I thought.
Just hard to tell with online pictures because how that dial looks in different lighting.
And we are in agreement with loving this...
For me it's a newfound love because I have not seen it in person until very recently.

Have seen the 5980/1ar and that blue dial is just crazy beautiful, not like a blue dial on any other Nautilus I have ever seen but have not seen the 5711P. Read that it is similar to the 5711P dial if not the same.

Its a stunning dial for sure and if its in your head now and have the funds to purchase it I would go for it and enjoy it irrespective of others think in polls.

It might take a little hit in resale if you ever decide to sell it in years time but the enjoyment you will get everytime your look at it on your wrist ??? Now thats the real investement of owning a Patek for me, the enjoyment!!!..

Like others have stated it does not sell well because it is two tone and the overall demand isn't there for pieces with multiple metals. If that dial came on a solid good or all SS model it would be a top 5 seller hands down.

Great dial but TT for me in person watch looks wrong. Don't like it at all and nor does the market.

I adore it

I absolutely adore it. The blue is stunning and the two tone works for me. It is in my head for a few months already but rationally thinking I'm hesitating, but my heart says to get it and enjoy it. I had it on my wrist and it is a true beauty, pictures don't even come close to how it looks for real. Sorry for the poor picture.

I have also tried it on in person and being a fan of blue dials, this is an absolutely stunning dial.

If you are a retro fan of the 1980's flamboyant glamrock fashion style go for this two tone.

I like TT in many watches and this is one of the best. The blue dial is gorgeous. I would wear it and enjoy it.

Buy this and the 5980 SS and swap the dial............

Or if you want the accents on the dial to match, put the dial in a full RG 5980R...........

Love that blue but I don't think two-tone suits the Nautilus well. The New two-tone Ro is actually nicer than I thought though. But I'd go full gold or gold on a strap.

Amen. There are too many great offerings from Patek to get this one.

The dial is great, but TT is not something I would want to get, very often the resale is terrible on them, if it was this dial on white metal, don't matter which one, or on RG it wiuld be a different story, get a 5712 forget any TT ideas, you'll thank me later

^^ Thanks for all the comments... It is interesting to hear everyones take on it...
I guess I like the overall look of the watch more than most PP aficionados.
Honestly, I was most enamored with the dial, but the watch overall is really nice too.
It puzzles me why PP would not use that dial in other Nautiluses (other than the 5711p).
Such a beauty to behold. Not sure I would ever bite on this one, but I just have to appreciate the pulchritude of that dial

Interesting thought Roger, is it possible to just buy the dial?
I am guessing no.
I saw the 5980/1R at AD and a little to big/heavy for my wrist.
It's an absolute beauty though! Again I think that one would look great with this particular blue.
Would rather go 15202OR for an all gold which I might do at some point.

I compared this dial to my sunburst blue dial Subc and they are very similar so obviously the colour is tremendous and certainly more vibrant than the 5711's, but the TT aspect is a bit off putting on APs and PPs, doesn't flow as well as on Rolexes.

Yes you're correct it's a much nicer dial. A shame they put it on the TT. If they put that dial on the next 5711 I would be dancing.

If I didn't have the full RG version I'd get this.
I love it...nicest two tone I've ever seen and I normally despise two tone.

Frankly, I've considered selling the full RG and getting this and buying something else with the change
