Just a couple quick and dirty pics of my new Nakaya.

Went with the portable writer in Kuro-Tamenuri (black over red). Decided to go with a Mottishaw 0.7mm stub nib. Also got pink gold plated nib and clip. Love the look. I'll report back once I ink it up!

Awesome! Be sure to report back about that nib, maybe a writing sample if we're lucky. When I order my Nakaya, it's going to have a stub/italic for sure.

Excuse my ignorance, but are there any differences between the metal screw thread and Ebonite models, other than the screw threads and price? What are the advantages or disadvantages in one over the other?

I don't find any real differences. The metal threads may change the weight balance just slightly towards the nib but not enough that I can notice it.

BUT there is an enormous difference in the manufacturing process, enough to more than explain the price difference.

... and the ebonite/urushi threads on a Portable Writer.

The non-metal thread pens must have the threads cut, then the urushi coatings applied, then the threads cut again to assure there is no excess urushi in the groves and that all of the dimensions match the threads in the cap and that there is no binding.

The labor involved in the non-metal threads is mind-blowing and I can see hours of additional labor might be needed on each non-metal thread pen; plus one mistake and weeks of work would go down the drain.
