A visit to HQ Milton in San Francisco

During my recent visit to the Bay Area, I finally got to meet Jacek at HQ Milton and see a plethora of beautiful vintage watches I'd never seen before. Jacek was kind enough to pull out some near birth year era watches for me (1966) as well as some Heuer Autavias.

I have to admit I never quite understood the allure of 'gilt' dialed watches, but now I do. Pictures surely don't catch the way the light sparkles on these vintage dials. Now I think I'm ruined as I want to add one of these to my collection.

Until then, enjoy a few pics from HQ Milton and many thanks to Jacek for his time and shooting the breeze about vintage watches! Make sure and stop by the next time you're in a San Francisco!

If you're a vintage Rolex aficionado like me, HQ Milton is paradise. Just be forewarned the area right outside their door is "gritty and definitely urban". I say this both as a repeat customer of theirs, and repeat consigner to them. First class outfit and people......

It's on the short list of things to do, visit HQ. I bought two watches from them, and they are a first rate operation.

Jacek is directly responsible for my vintage rolex disease. I say that with the greatest love and admiration. He and Kazu and Scott run a great shop. And his in-house watchmaker is outstanding.

The Mission District! If you visit, you gotta try Gracias Madre for lunch or dinner.

Very straightforward with their listings which is always appreciated, comes in total contrast to this sort of thing http://shop.analogshift.com/collecti...racuda-as01895 Have you ever read such romanticised nonsense in the effort to sell a watch? Turns out the watch might have been used by the Polish military. Jacek would probably have a laugh.

Jacek is a great guy and dealer. Been buying/trading from and with him for years.

For me, the best way to separate the good dealers from the great ones, is when you have a problem with a watch after buying. Jacek will make sure you're satisfied, and in the rare occasion there might be a problem, he'll fix it. He once regulated a watch for me twice, then had it fully serviced at no charge, all after I bought it.

Bought lots from Jacek. A couple of pieces have had issues typical of +50-year-old watches. On all occasions he's gone above and beyond to ensure total satisfaction, as opposed to other dealers who've taken a "Well, what do you expect from vintage?" approach.

Deal with absolute confidence. These people are as good as it gets.

As much as I view anyone who sells honest vintage watches and "keeps it alive" I have to laugh at the approach of that dealer. He must have been a fan of Seinfeld and was impressed by the J Peterman persona.

Cool place, I visited in 2012 while at a meeting. Made it out without buying anything, but have probably bought 10-20 watches from them over the years

HQ = Gold Standard of vintage Rolex dealers IMO.
Also visited HQ a few years ago while in SF. Will go again when I have the chance.
