2018 Lexus LC 500

My dealer just called and they finally got one in for me to look at. Its not for sale, just a tour car making the rounds By no means am I sold on this, but I will be popping in tonight for a look at it.
Actually after doing more research, it seems an awfull lot to pay for this car.
I am leaning way more into a Mercedes C63 S either hard top or cabriolet. Way more bang for the buck and proven winner. I hate getting wrapped up on the ' latest and greatest" any thoughts??

I give them kudos for staying naturally aspirated.

But for the $$, I think there are much better cars out there.

Let us know your impressions.

Much prefer the C63 you are considering. Lexus makes a great car, but every time I drive one I come away underwhelmed. Also do not fit well in them. Seats are too small for me.

Unfortunately for that price range I'm getting a 911 end of story.

At this price point there are better and much more exciting vehicles to choose. Still worth taking a look just to see what they have to offer. We might be surprised.

Doubt it's worth the price tag and you can get much better performance elsewhere...BMW, MB, Maserati. I bought the Ghibli and for the price it's pretty nice, although I do prefer the way BMW's handle. The Lexus is very nice looking though, I give it that.

I believe you guys are all correct on this car. It is way overpriced for what it is, but I will go in tonight just to see it. Kills me to be trading in my 2013 SL550 and knowing the trade-in is only going to bring mid 40's at best. This is a car that listed for 124,500 back in 2013 and I only have 22,000 miles on it. So I am going to have to pony up about 50 large to get what I want and it probably won't equal the SL.
Please, someone talk me out of this nonsense.

Well, MB has terrible depreciation, so not surprised. Welcome to 2017 ;-)

Whatever you do, I'd suggest NOT buying that Lexus.

Like others said, if you want to spend $100k, go buy a entry 911 Porsche (MUCH better car).

You see, thats just it, I don't want to spend a 100 k to to get an entry level car. Granted, Porsche is one of the brands I know the least about because they range from 85000 to well over 200k. Been more of a creature comforts type of guy and thats probably why MB has always had my biz.
That C63S is looking stronger and stronger, and honestly the c43amg is a heck of a car also for a ton less

Ah, gotcha--MB guy. That works.

But if you think the hit you took on that SL is bad, wait until you see what that AMG looks like in three years (or two for that matter).

Buy that used if you can or lease it with a good MF and residual.

I agree, and I bought the Sl550 from a older woman in LA that had 800 miles on it. Her husband bought it for her, and it was too hard for her to get in and out.
Bought it for 97,000 so the hits not that bad, but still stings a wee bit.
They took a 35,000 hit after just 3 months.(taxes included for them) ouch!!!!!

Interestingly enough, the E31 8 covered that spread quite well:

95 840ci MSRP 1995 $70,370.00, adjusted for inflation (Mar 17) $112,205.86.

95 850CSi MSRP 1995 $104,650, adjusted for inflation (Mar 17) $166,865.76.

If you can get your hands on one of the 225 E31 850CSi produced for the NA market, keep it. They depreciated, but the values still hold at 50-70K and prices have been going up. Funny, there was an E34 M5 Touring Elekta that went for $125k this spring.

I had the chance to take a ride in one. I work for Toyota. It's a great car but the f version is worth waiting for and you'll get murdered on resale. It'd be a great car at 75k. At 100k, not so much.

Lexus reigns when it comes to reliability and I applaud them for delivering such a uniquely designed vehicle to market. They engineer their cars to a different beat in order to deliver on their quality, durability and reliability mission.

Their F line of cars are legit competitors to M and AMG, though often overlooked simply because they're super new to this tarting up reg joe commuter version game.

LCs are going to be produced in very low volumes. The 911 is a different car for a different buyer. I'm interested to check the LC out myself, but I'm a member of the LC F club should they ever bring it to market. Big GT3 series fan, but disappointed with Porsche releasing an illegitimate motor in the 991.1 GT3 which would be around the price point of an LC F.

Thank goodness Rolexes are much cheaper to own.

With only 22,000 miles your SL is barely broken in. I guess if you are not enjoying the SL anymore, you may as well take the hit and move on. The longer you wait, the greater the financial hit you will take.
Given the low miles and model year, you might be able to negotiate a little harder to bump up the trade-in value a little bit since they will probably put it on the lot as CPO and list for $10K or $15K more than they give you.

I like it. Seems like a car that would be solid for years but perhaps not as fun as an euro exotic.
