The wealthy will get options when they screw up that those of lesser means will not. As long as no one is hurt or killed, maybe it doesn't matter. I'm not sure the family of victims hurt or killed by those who make poor choices care about the difference. IMO, you shouldn't be able to negotiate accountability for your own decisions and choices.
As far as Tiger goes, I hope he gets the help he needs and learns from this episode. Last edited by Old Geezer; 15 June 2017 at 02:59 AM.. Reason: adding commnet |

Oxy,Hydro etc....have a way of pulling you back in no matter how many times you try to stop. I realized at 60 years old I will be on them the rest of my life.....methadone anyway.Tiger has enough money to get off them...but maybe the guy really is in bad pain.....years of torque swinging your back cant be good for it. He may need the drugs to keep on playing.

In Brasil they have the "Lei Seca" or the dry law, where you cannot operate a motor vehicle unless you are 0.00 BAC or drug free. Politicians, high profile business people, and soccer players get ensnared often, and they pay the penalty.
I already explained what we have in Canada. People here pay the penalty. In America, people like Tiger, can opt to pay the "price". There is a difference in the wording......please note that. And that is really the problem with this whole thing as someone earlier pointed out. As we're not talking about white collar crime here (and that's bad too, just talk to any of Bernie Madoff's victims) the solution to people who egregiously endanger the lives of others in this way can be resolved very easily. Make impaired driving causing death the same as first degree premeditated murder........because it is. Up here that is 25 to life, with no parole for the first 25 years. All impaired driving would drop dramatically as a result. Even the "Lei Seca" in Brasil has cut impaired driving dramatically because of the penalties for being 0.01 over. I was convicted of DUI 25 years ago this month. I was pardoned a decade ago, and have never re-offended. |

I am fine with impaired driving causing death requiring 25 years in the US but aside from that...you aren't American and your interpretation of our legal system is of little to no value
