omega deployant option - watch obsession version?
anyone try the omega-style deployant by watch obsession?
like other knockoffs (altho they state "omega style" so i guess it's technically not a knockoff), the build quality is usually faulty around the enclosure itself, not very crisp/firm click of the enclosure. as well as buttons too-easily release the deployant, and doesn't close fully flush with the rest of the body. i've certainly had a few bad experiences with such fakes. i asked watch obsession for additional photos, and they were kind enough to send me a few shots (very quick response, btw!). what do u think? any enthusiasts here have had good experience with this particular model? if high quality, the price is too good to give up (compared to OEM). |

I guess I don't know why someone would buy a knockoff deployant when the real thing is only a couple hundred bucks from a Boutique...
I know, a few hundred $$ for this much metal is a rip-off, but if you're already spending THOUSANDS on the watch, why go cheap for this part? Just my opinion...

the question/debate is fair...but i also think it's a personal choice of deciding what is/not worth it to an individual to shell out hundreds of dollars for, regardless of comparative context.
that being said, yes i have (still) considered going OEM route (pre-owned, at least) only cuz i'm not having much luck finding equal quality in an 'homage'. Quote:

I also want an Omega deployment buckle. I haven't seen the real thing in person, but I bet the quality control would be better. In your first picture it looks like the spring bar is not aligned straight, it looks crooked. In the last picture it looks like the guide for the tail of the strap (I think) is also not a uniform size from one side to the other. Just my observations, I guess depending on the cost it might be worth the risk, I would prefer OEM, but yet to pull the trigger either and could see myself getting tempted by less expensive options as well.

I own several of the real ones, and that picture looks nothing like them in terms of fit & finish.
If it's $20 and you absolutely, positively can't/won't go OEM, I guess it would be worth a try. But again, when a strap can be $300 or more, I guess it's all relative to me. But that's just me. Good luck in your search.
