Tonight's selection for our little get together. The stag's leap actually was everyone's favorite. The quilt was okay but I was expecting more for what/ who made it.
The Trailside Heitz was WAAAY different than the other one.

Added one more for good measure, this ones amazing too! Wish I could find more of it, down to one bottle left after this one.

Not surprised on the assessment of the Quilt — we felt the same way — although I am more of an old school Caymus fan — before they completely changed their style to fruit forward. Now, I totally understand from the business perspective and it’s a stroke of genius — because most people think it is a 50$ bottle of Caymus and that statistically most wine ‘ages’ on its way from the store to the house. Lol.

Most of the modern Wagner wines have so much residual sugar that I just don’t like. And it’s true of Belle Glos, and Meomi.

We bought a bunch just to serve as an ‘all around’ red wine with guests, etc. But got the same response from ‘wine people’ and non ‘wine people’.

I figured the Leap would be ‘the one’ — the last few bottles of Heitz we’ve had — have just been ok.

Cheers!

We ended up drinking another 5 bottles after that, I had more stag's leap varieties put away than I realized. Just stuck with one leftover Quilt which will probably turn into an office gift for someone down the road who might like it more than us.

Nice stuff Frank. I’ve got a couple bottles of the 407 left. Cute pup!

Trying this tonight, for the first time. Supposedly, less than 8400 bottles produced.

Simply...The Wine Thread

Tonight in the mtns we did filet mignon topped with leftover sautéed mushrooms, grilled asparagus and sweet potatoes and served it with a 20 year old Silver Oak Napa cab from the cellar - dinner and the wine were both outstanding.

Excellent! Looks amazing - and am sure it was!

Those older Alexander Valleys are still showing really well.

Looks like a great dinner!

FYI, Alexander Valley is in Sonoma.

Yeah you are correct. It was late and I was typing on autopilot while texting with a friend.

‘07 was a spectacular vintage. I imagine that was stellar.

Haven't posted in a while, but felt like sharing this one. Seems appropriate for today :)

Have had their Cab before (winemaker is Chris Petersen of Avennia, previously at DeLille if folks are familiar), but not the red blend(cab/merlot/cab franc). Seems pretty good at the ~$50 price point.

I'd LOVE to know how the Scarecrow turns out. That's one that'll be out of my reach for some time but all I hear are good things about it.

How would you compare Scarecrow to Harlan to Screaming Eagle? Do they have very uniquely tasting notes?

I never had the latter 2...
